The crow never got the chance to pluck the eyes from a dead man or nibble on dying flesh. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Maybe Dean will share his latest corpse.

I am not very fond of horror and thriller, I don't usually read them. Dark imagery and descriptions of the evil crow-I knew there was something I didn't like about them. Creatively written, Faye

I'm sorry, Faye, that you had to read the horror and thriller poem. I hope you weren't misled. I've never written one before, but did this poem for Dean's book. The crow, while not very attractive, is actually very intelligent. It can be taught to speak, can use sticks to obtain food, and it does a number of tricks. Thank you for reading and reviewing despite the darkness, and the excellent rating. Next time, back to the light.

Hello :)

I love dark poetry and horror, in the style of Edgar Alan Poe and Dean Kuch. This is a very nice addition to the book Shifting Shadows. Poems of Darkness. Well chosen words that convey gloom and fear. Stunning presentation, I love the pictures and the black and white contrast. Well done!

Very dark. Something along the line that Dean would write. Moody with evil lurking in the dark. Crows are really smart birds. Great flow and rhythm. Thanks for sharing. Les

Thank you, Les, for the excellent review and rating. This is my first excursion into darkness. I'm far more comfortable in the light. Crows are very smart, can be taught to speak, do tricks, use sticks to get food and many other things. I appreciate your positive comments very much.

I speak a poor pidgin poesy, so I'll ask-was the fearlful fiend a typo? This seems like a really excellent Poe-flavored contribution to the horror poems book.

Oh wow! RS, I love this! I'm a HUGE fan of Poe's and you've captured this so wonderfully! So eloquently... and so darkly rich, I"m just blown away! Wow!
I know Dean will LOVE this! This rocks!
GREAT JOB!
I especially loved the second half, though the rhyming and lovely lines and assonance in the first part was just as delightful!
GREAT job!

I only saw one spag (if you want to call it that)
in the second part, 3rd line, there is an extra space you might want to remove:

soul( )is rotting

but that was all...
Lovely in its presentation, I do with I had saved a six for you or you had posted this on sunday, my dear... so lovely... I have to set about writing my next dark one and post it correctly next time. (Is there a trick to posting it right? or just hit that button there that says, "Add chapter"?)

Loved it!

Thank you, Cat, for the wonderful review and the excellent rating. I'm glad you enjoyed the Poe-Kuch poem. I've never written dark before, but this one was for Dean. Thanks for the virtual six, I appreciate your mentioning it. I look forward to your own dark poem. There's no trick. I went to Dean's site, clicked on his Helloween poem, at the bottom is a green button to add a chapter to the book. Check out available chapter numbers, when you enter, change the chapter number to one available. Use advanced editor. I appreciate your splendid review and the excellent rating very much. Have a beautiful sunny day.

I love, love, love this!!! Nice emanations of Poe here, but with your own wonderful style.
I love that the crow tore "that silly straw man" into a thousand pieces. (Tear up those fallacious arguments and pretences)
Your occasional use of rhyme is good, as is the repetition: "the crow sat silent, sat he silent...silently he sat there smirking." I really like that. The crow is an interesting bird, and I believe they are very intelligent. (I do not believe they are evil but that's beside the point)
I assume that Uhr is a place that you made up - and it is effectively a dark and dismal place. Some kind of killing occurred there although we can't know who or what was killed - a fearful fiend of some sort. (But who killed the fiend?)
In the end, dark intention seems to wrap so tightly around itself that it causes it's own destruction...evermore (smile).
I love this! Sorry to be so effusive...I can't help myself! If I had six stars...(this refrain is becoming old and overused, but sadly, it is true).

Thank you, Carol, for the wonderful review and the excellent rating. I'm glad you enjoyed the Poe-Kuch poem. I've never written dark before, but this one was for Dean. Thanks for the virtual six, I appreciate your mentioning it. This was a poem that once begun, virtually wrote itself. I loved Poe as a kid, and I guess the rhythm just took over. You can be effusive as much as you like.
Compliments from people you respect are very meaningful. I'm just glad the poem resonated with you. Thanks again.

Hello rspoet

Your first poem about a crow is a great lead in for part two of your dark poem of the hooray scene seen in the

the loam of fields forgotten,
long forgotten in the dim of Uhr,
the dark and dank of Uhr.

I'm sure dean will like you addition to his multi- book

After reading your poem (and catching my breath) I read your notes about this being the first time you've written dark. WOW. Maybe it shouldn't be your last; I think you struck oil when you decided to tap that vein, my friend. Your poem is intensely and beautifully written, each powerful stanza complementing the next. Well done!

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

-Great photos and presentation.
-I appreciate the author notes.
-This is a good poem for Dean's book, and a very well written one, since it is your first time "on the dark side!"
-Vivid imagery, good story, and also a tribute to Poe. I like your take on the crow that also includes the raven!
-You tell us how the crow became a symbol of evil--he simply took apart the scarecrow, and it was downhill for him from there.
-I like the last stanza of Part I.
-Then you take the reader into the Land of uhr. I see the reference to Poe in the last part of the first stanza.
-A good beginning to the last stanza with
"Dark intention
wrapped its silken mist of evil
'round the crow--"
-And then,
"Darkness there,
evermore."

Thank you, Respa, for the wonderful review and the exceptional rating. I'm glad you enjoyed the Poe-Kuch poem. I've never written dark before, but this one was for Dean. You quoted some of my favorite lines in the poem. The land of Uhr is not a place I want to visit often. I appreciate your warm and encouraging comments and the six stars very much
