Everything you've written in this essay rings true in my mind. When looking at this sea of old cars, one can imagine the many lives affected by those vehicles. The gas truck, SUV, sports car, pick up, and coupe from the forties all have stories that are the possible lynch pin to someone's life.

Any old structure or item has a history. Most have sad endings. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. There is good imagery.

You have hit upon a great metaphor for life in this short story line. I think it will hit home with everyone. The more I think about it. The more I like what you have written here. This is a reflection on our lives and you have an excellent way of telling it here. This is well worthy of all six stars awarded here... John

Yes. We do have so much more in common to celebrate than to dwell on our differences and not make each day better.
If we all have a 'use by date', then we should make the best use of the time we are given for in the scheme of things we are all an integral part of the whole and can make a difference to create a better future.

Nicely said and clearly written. I like the use of the cars to highlight your philosophy of life.

I agree, a car wreck may look like a twisted piece of metal, but each one hold an individual secret or interesting story about its former owners. Well written story, and well expressed thoughts on the subject. Enjoyable read. faye

Hi there,

An interesting point of view you have put across with your interpretation on this affecting photograph. I think you are right. each has its own story but is also part of a commonality and whole.
Nicely written piece.

All the best

Great essay inspired by picture of abandoned cars. Yes, each one tells a story. If cars could talk! Collectively, as you explain in your essay, the cars tell us something about our disposable society and finite lives. Yes, life is what we make of it. Thank you for your essay.

Annmuma--
Somewhere among the field of cars is my daughter's totaled Neon. It would not look totaled, the top just smooshed down a bit, but totaled, nevertheless.

She was thrown from the car because, in this case, not wearing a seatbelt. Saved her life. Only difference here between this car where a death nearly happened and the hundreds of others is I had been working on, dreaming about this section of road for better than a year before the accident.

I have no intention of boring you with the details of these dreams or what I did, action wise in response to them. I just feel what I did, foresight wise, saved my daughter's life. So, for me, one of those cars out there is...different. It is a car that defied Fate, the Fate that delivered all these other vehicles to the junkyard.

I get your point. It is well made. But every car there is an absolutely individual story and, frankly, mine is different than all of the rest. Categorically different, if that is the word I need,

Best
Wabigoon/Jeff

I am so happy to hear your daughter's life was saved and that you listened to whatever dreams played a part. Thank you for reading my essay and for sharing your insight. ann

I enjoyed reading your story. It was interesting to read about how you can paint a picture in words using a picture. A good story and a good job.
