Been sitting with this one for a while. I was so excited to see that you had posted something - and then I read why. Heart-breaking sad. So sorry for your loss - what a moving, heartfelt, beautifully articulated message. I know that you will find comfort in your faith - I wish the same for his parents. You have had way more than your share of loss and hard times - your perseverance is amazing. I'll keep you and your loved ones in my prayers. Hardly worth mentioning, but I hope it goes without saying that if I had a six, this would get it.
Peace, friend

This was a tough one...and my friends and I were struggling. (They were the ones I took to Chicago). To return to what then spiraled into our private hell was excruciating for them....I am trying to be there in every way I can...but there is absolutely nothing I can do. He was a wonderful guy. Thanks, Mark.

A deep and effective poem about the loss of your Godson to AIDS. I read your poem while wearing the leather baseball cap of a friend of a friend who died of AIDS. Even though I did not know him, I want to honor his memory, because, to quote you, "Your life mattered. It matters still."
Your poem does an effective job in honoring the memory of your grandson. Your grief and regret is deep. Your tone is raw and honest. It is an elegy and an eulogy.
This line brought me comfort as I am sure it did you, "We all have tears enough to wash away the constant sorrow, but we have hope enough to live for brighter days. We have God's promise that this life is not the end."
Thank you for sharing. I am sorry for your loss.

Excellent. Very well written. I feel sad for your loss. It is so very hard to lose someone you love dearly. I lost my favorite brother in 2008 and this poem made me think of him. Thank you for the beautiful writing.

You have my sincere sympathy. Loss is a part of life, but a part that we all struggle to comprehend. Thank you so very much.

This free-verse poem is a model of what grief can do to us. The impression this young man had on you is evident. Hopefully, you and others will find a way to tell his story. As a psychotherapist, I have worked with many persons and the families struggling with AIDS and AIDS related diseases. The grief you describe is like your watch has stopped. But you share in the end what you hope will happen. You have to make that happen. Grief work is had work indeed.
A beautiful poem. And it's not sad. It's honest. -Bill

Dear Unspoken, Your comments have helped tie down the floating ribbons of pain and sadness. This is a rough time for us...but your kind words spoke to the truths we must accept. Thank you.

Very poignant Lois. The piece to me reads like a prayer for your godson a plea for him to understand that you attempted to do everything you could to make his struggles easier and that if you had the power you would have gladly alleviated him from the harsh lightening blast of melancholy that he was feeling as he was suffering through this dreaded disease. I also liked the hope that you put in here that even in the darkest hours of depth God will show us better days. Well done.

A sad, melancholic piece. It resonates with anybody who has recently had to say goodbye to a loved one. You do a good job of stirring the emotions with your verse.

This is a beautiful poem tribute to your Godson
whose life mattered and always will
All the things we would have changed
if only they were within our ability to change
But we do the best we can, as you did
"to love the man, the friend, the son, the person, you were"
The rest is in God's hands
"God's promise that this life is not the end."
Beautiful poem and art work
Well done
