My Jewish aunt survived the Holocaust. I thought about her today, as I often do, because I cannot forget the horrors she endured. When I read your poem and think of Anne Frank I think how close my aunt came to the gas chambers on several occasions. Your poem also reminds me of how smart my aunt was as a girl Anne's age and how she never achieved her potential in Hungary due to racism, war, and finally being sent to the camps. The experiences of my aunt and of Anne are always in the background of my mind seventy years later. Thank you for bringing their memories of the horrors of the Holocaust to the foreground.

Hi Sis Cat, I am so pleased you got so much from my poem about Anne Frank, I can understand how you did with the experience of your aunt. It was a dreadful time for so many under Hitler's rule. I really appreciate your exceptional rating. Mary

You are right- we must never forget. I am so thankful that in History class in elementary school during a unit on World War Two, both my kids had to read The Diary of Anne Frank. Excellent telling of her story in verse.

Her story will live on, as will the horrors of those
horrors.
You convey the events well in your poem.
Nice even meter and strong rhyme.

I applaud your poem

I have read Anne Franks Diary and many other similar stories. You have captured the life she must have led in the annexe to perfection.

The saddest thing is that she died of Typhus at the very end of the war.

Yes indeed, Anne Franke had her young, talented life cut short. When we hear the number six million Jews, it's easy to forget each individual had hopes, dreams, talents, loves, etc.

I think WWII claimed the most lives, counting civilians and soldiers. A very dark period in modern history.

Now we come to present day where man's inhumanity to man still continues across the planet...

You did a lovely job reminding people of her story with well chosen rhymes that all made sense to the piece. Hugs, Lou

I agree, Mary, her suffering was awful. But there are at the same time many holocausts in other countries that have been deliberately ignored or conveniently forgotten. I know of two that two close friends told me about in the last few years-the media never talks about these deaths, but in my book all life is of equal value. One was in the Ukraine, 3 million Ukrainians were murdered by Russians after World War II. Another was in India where 6 million Hindus died at the hands of Moslems in 1947, around the time of Partition of India. War and killing are abhorrent-we must mourn all their lives. I hope you don't mind me pointing this out, Mary as I didn't know and I felt ashamed. Excellent story and excellent rhyming. faye

Thanks for your excellent review Faye, I agree with you all life is of equal value, the atrocities that are happening at this present moment, suffering of innocents. All of these acts are heinous crimes. It is all on the news everyday. We feel powerless. Did I read you right when you said you never heard of Anne Frank?
    Thanks again Mary

No, Mary, I knew of her but the other holocausts I hadn't heard of, I felt very inadequate and ashamed that I had been misled by the media because they only write about what they want you to hear. It is as if they consider Indians or Ukrainians unworthy of our sympathies. Sorry to confuse you, I just came back from Copenhagen, where I had a short holiday with my daughter-she gave an hour long lecture on Mars to about 500 Software engineers. It was fun. I am still tired after the journey home this morning. You are very welcome. Faye

You must be so proud of your daughter, is her talk in utube? Mary
reply by Nosha17 on 07-Oct-2015
Yes, it will be, Mary. It is for a conference company called goto.com As soon as I have the link I will send it. They probably have to edit all the keynote talks before putting it on youtube. Thank you for asking-you would be fascinated as I know you like aerospace. Faye

Hello,

A beautiful poem about the brilliant young writer Ann Frank. I recently watched a movie that was true to the book and it was so sad to see the way she lived, her frustration, and the way she ended up killed at an early age. I love the way you write
and you have solid rhyme and meter. Well done!

Hello, Mary

I liked how you switched the rhyme scheme up a bit, going from a,a,b,b, rhymed quatrains in the first two, then switching gears to a mono-rhyme scheme in the third. You switch again back to the a,a,b,.b scheme you utilized in the first two, then carry out that theme for the remainder of the poem. It put a sort of highlight, if you will, on that third stanza, which made it stand out from the rest.

The entire poem is very well written from start to finish, and tells the story of one young Jewish girl by the name of Anne Frank, who, as we all know, survived her persecutors s well as the horrors of the Holocaust, and wrote the now famous novel, The Diary of Anne Frank.

You are also correct in stating that we must never forget these types of incidents occurred, as much as we'd like to. If we forget our history, we will be doomed to repeat it.

Well done...

~Dean
