Very fitting country lyrics. Full of sadness and tragedy. I like the picture you chose with it. Gives it an extra edge. Far too many people who are looking to hold on to something, end up holding onto a bottle. Bad choice, but reality.
I liked this one a lot. :)

Glad you enjoyed these lyrics. Seems the bottle is indeed where many people turn to, when they have nothing else to hold on to. Your comments and support appreciated.

Hmmmm. The bottle must've taken the place of the companion it seems. This type of music always integrates the same precepts, love lost, loneliness and exile and the inability to find ones way back. Except for the freight train and a loose Mama it really fits the bill ;)

Three chords and the truth. That is what real Country music is all about. Glad you enjoyed these lyrics. Your comments and support appreciated.

I enjoyed reading your poem and was surprised to find that it is a song lyric writing. Maybe I will hear one the country western singers singing this one day? It would be nice and I would not be surprised at that. Good poem and good job.

Like you I am into free verse too. I don't really look much into rhyming schemes. I would rather allow the poem to wash over me and if it does, then you have achieved the purpose, as this poem did to me. An excellent write. God bless.

Very touching. Relationships just don't happen. They require time, patience and understanding. Many relationships break just when everything seems good

Such an insightful set of lyrics.
The true feelings of one betrayed emotionally. Lies not in a break up but in the lost of trust of one self

Hi Brett,

This is a nice poem. It sounds like love went wrong. I've had experiences with it too, but I finally found out I have was much happier being alone.

The lyrics tell a story, as all country music does. I like the way you incorporated the words hold on throughout the free style poem.

Oh, love gone awry! This happens too often in today's world but if we closely search, there is something there to hold on to. Breaking up is very easy as claimed in: "Giving up is an easy thing to do" but the consequence is damn too much to bear. Thank you for sharing, at least some one will have something to pick from the poem to continue to hold on.

I hadn't read your notes about song lyrics, but my first impression was, what a great country song. It's got all the element's of blues, repetition, unlucky love and the feel of a C&W's rhythm. There are some terrific lines in here eg:
Now Holdin' On ain't holding on no more
And, love to me was another one night stand
I have one small grammatical suggestion:
But, the flame of love between us has gotten old ...in this line you use 'has' which implies you're just thinking about it, whereas the entire verse says it's long gone. I simply suggest changing 'has' to 'had'.
I hope that helps.
Loved your song.
