This is a very clear journey for a person who has had such a devastating loss. First the drugs masks the hurt for a time, then the state of drunkenness yet this is not enough. The breakdown then the abyss-hope gone. The reach out to God because your lost. PLEASE hear her..and He does! With Him holding you close in his arms, you asked and he answered. He walks with you every day and you find purpose once more. Beautiful poem. Blessings. Kat

This is lovely, Pierre! It takes a special skill to write in rhyming couplets and NOT sound forced, but you pull it off magnificently AND move us at the same time. Good luck!

When a child passes owe, a part of the parent's soul goes too. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Good luck in your contest.

They'll probably kick this 6 out and it's my last one, but Pierre, this poem is a 6! Most of my career was counseling children and teens and young adults who were in the throes of a terminal illness. This included their families. I think I can get a sense of where this person is coming from. We don't bury our children. It's our children who are supposed to bury us. The grief of a child is not the same as the grief of a parent, spouse or friend. You demonstrated that in this poem. I value the ending which is one of hope and wholeness. -Bill

Thank you very much for your kind review. Thank you for the 6th star too. I'm quite sure that I could not handle the counseling with which you were involved

We served the whole family through their nighmare and one of the expectations was that the primary persons in that child's life were to commit to counseling for a year following. It was tough but we never lost a client. All the best.

Wow, this was deep. This poem is very emotional and powerful to me because I am a mother of 2 daughters and I can't even fathom the thought of losing any of them. My condolences and very powerful poem.

So sorry for your loss. The loss of a child is a horrific experience. My neighbor's son drowned when he was 8 and the grieving was enormous for the family and friends. The last stanza gives one hope that this parent found comfort in his faith.

Excellent rhyme and internal rhyme. Good use of alliteration throughout.

Well done.

This is very sad, I hope is not biographical.
I love these lines...

Don't give up, don't go away
I still have plans for you today
Many are los in bleak decay
Who do not know I am The Way

I wish you good luck in the contest and a nice weekend

This was very done very darkly at the beginning and I was grieved but the last stanza lifted my spirit with the entrance of His light. His light takes away all form of grieve and darkness around us. Happy to see this in the poem.

Hi..A strong and shocking comeback that would have been hard to do for the common man. The spiritual strangulation part was neatly defined. Cheers.
