Loons are wonderful birds. I know a number of great poets have written about the loon. You captured well in this piece the mystical, melodious songs they sing.
Well done, Tom.

Hello :)

Beautiful Alouette Poem about loons. You show such compassion and admiration for them that it is a sign that you must be a very kind person. Very descriptive writing. Well done!

Although we couldn't hear the stuffed loon in your photograph, you captured its lovely pattern. I enjoyed your choice of the Alouette form along with your rhymes and meter. I liked the way you focused on their "woodland tune" and "lonely sounds" in the first stanza. Cheers and happy weekend when it arrives- Joan

my. They are quite beautiful, aren't they. Too bad you were not able to photograph one in the wild. The poem is lovely and is a tribute to them.

-I wonder if you see the loons on the lake? I have seen them on a web cam on a Minn. lake. Interesting, especially when they have their young.
-Your poem follows the correct format.
-The first stanza is good, talking about the sounds of the loon:
"Lonely sounds they make.
A distinctive song they sing."
-The second stanza nicely describes their habitat:
"In the North they thrive,
Where they swim and dive,"

VERY nice! I'm fascinated with all forms of wildlife - we had a member here a while back who wrote the most amazing true life tales of wildlife! crazy! And it's so neat that you would create a 'skylark' poem as an ode to another bird. I think that is probably what the French may have had in mind exactly! *smile*

I enjoyed!

A very solid allouette poem. It has a nice flow to it and the topic can easily be understood. The words used help create a clear vision - very descriptive. Well done. I like this poem - thank you for sharing it.

Very creative. I'm not familiar with this bird but I think I'm a little more now. I like you descriptions. I like how you share how the bird sounds and how it migrates. Very creative and an enjoyable read.

I am a loon fan, and this poem describes well their cry and their movements on the water. I love seeing them with their babies on their backs and to wake up to their calling in the early morning.

I wonder if you might want to make everything plural for consistency? Loons in the first line, and They in the third. Everything else is already plural.

Thank you for introducing me to the alouette. It is a graceful verse form that is perfect for this subject.

Thank you Debbie. I thought about that but decides to have the first stanza singular, and the second plural.
