This is a very fine Villanelle poem
written to the form you mentioned in the notes
"Fingers of fire often excite."
is a great line that describes the flower
and titles the poem
I would have tried to make this line the second repeat
so it could finish the poem
Still, an excellent poem and picture
Well done

A solid write. An enjoyable poem to read with a nice flow. I do like the picture of the flower attached. It really enhances the descriptions used in the poem. Well done and thank you for sharing.

Comment from Cass Carlton
This is delightful. Artwork is lovely ,too. I must try to write a villanelle, some time, they read so sweetly ,like a little bell ringing. This one is just the same. Your subject is most appealing , things in Nature do work well with this kind of rhyme.
However, as I have found on other occasions attempting to use a particular construction scheme, not as easy as one might think. So I suspect you may have gone through a "hair tearing " phase while composing . Worth the trouble though. Lovely little piece well done cheers Cass

I think I was first introduced to the Villanelle through one of your poems, Tom.
I find it a charming, old fashioned sing-song sort of form.
The image of the burning bush is spectacular! Makes one wonder ... :)

I agree, dahlias are a lovely addition to a garden. Nearly every English garden has dahlias, the colours are always so bright, like you wrote. Excellent descriptions and rhyming. Lovely picture you took. Faye

The picture and the poem and its vivid descriptions is a masterful melding of thoughts of the 'finger of fire,' igniting with the blossom of colours.
Well done, Tom.

Your lovely photo of a flower in a bush complements your poem perfectly. A faultless Villanelle with strong repeating lines. Proper rhyme and flow. The title already attracted me.
