Loved it. Philosophical, wise, insightful and I believe truthful. Nice imagery and play with words. It is obvious why you are ranked at the #3 spot. The end reminds me of a famous quote, that I like

He is no fool
who gives what he can not keep
to gain what he can not lose
Jim Elliot.

I'll be looking for more of your work.

It's only love that makes one whole is a beautiful line that fits the preceding verses and lines. There is a feel of contentment and happiness in your words. Excellent rhyming of words and a smooth flow of lines. Your poetic form shows a path of life in which one changes over time and what is wanted out of life changes, as shown in the last line.

Great rhythm, rhyme and flow. Great to be content in life. Very important message here about not gaining the world to lose your soul. Colton Dixon has a song out on this.

Excellent poem. I feel the words through and through. I'd rather die a thousand times than to ever lose my faith in my Creator, or in anyway disappoint Him. Thank you for sharing your writing.

We got here a cataloging of your life as a youth, a young man ... and now, each good sketches.

Your last stanza says it all:

If I could measure, define success,
I'd be a fool, in fact transgress,
To gain this world but lose my soul
It's only love that makes one whole.

Good job, Roy. Blessings, friend.

Dear Roy,

I must say your title intrigued me and I could hardly wait to read what you said, especially in your wonderful poetic form you so easily get your message across.
I must say I did miss a picture, though.

Re your first stanza:, since it has meaning to me also...I.E. "My
life's content as is my soul. " What a feeling of gratitude to our Lord Jesus.

Re your second stanza, so visual in a "deep and meaningful way" to put into poetic words. Your first line, "Celestial river, so deep the flow," brings to my mind the "Living waters of God" .that nourishes our hearts and souls and bodies.

Your third stanza, your last line "Within my heart my hope's content" is very comforting.

Your fourth stanza, so true in that time in our lives, and your final stanza: is a complete and accurate account of Truth, since what does a man gain if he wins the "tempts" of this world, if the end he loses his soul?

Blessings, and thank you for sharing this enlightening poem since it held so much meant to me personally. Nan:))

I wish I had a six to give you for this wonderful, wonderful little poem. So true your words are. So needed your thoughts are. This poem is beautiful. One of the best I have read here. Thank you for sharing it. It was my pleasure to be able to read it, my friend. I love it.

I request that I be allowed to copy and paste it to my personal book of favorite poems from this site. They are and always will be for my own use and sight, not for others to see. I would very much love to be able to save this beautiful poem. Best wishes, my friend.

Always with respect,

As a person gets older, he gets wiser thing that matter when you are young don't matter any more. You know you have to prepare your soul.

A joy to read. We have all been there and have seen the light I think. Youth is wasted on the young. Well done my friend. Nancy

Oh yes, this poem starts out with the ultimate personal success: being conten with one's life, and then you share how you got there! Your perfectly chosen words reflect this peace of mind really well! This on it's own is quite a motivational speech!
