Another one of your comment on nature. These lines concluded your poem with a sharp message for humans:
"'Tis just this observation, subtly profound,
When God was making plans, we humans lived on ground."
Yes we did and eagles soared into the heavens.
Well done, Tom.

I love your wording of such lines as:
For comfort be thy goal, when e'er thou buildest nest,
But then again, most are not living in a tree.

You have enlightened me on this type of poem

Great job with this Sonnet, Tom. I really like the photo. We have an eagle's nest near our house, (we live on water), and the enormous branches these birds use amaze me. It certainly doesn't look comfortable, but then my arse isn't covered in feathers! LOL Love the old English twist--excellent writing, Tom!

A Slide Sonnet~Tree Top Thoughts~
by Treischel

Hello Sonnet Man, LoL I love your sonnets. You make it look so easy. I tried writing sonnets a couple of times but failed miserably. I like this slide type. It has a nice rhythm. Well done!

Wow, I'm impressed by your high power shot across a river. We saw a few eagles and osprey on this trip, but didn't have the lens to catch any pictures. I enjoyed another sonnet form, with its unusual repeats and your appealing rhymes. Cheers and happy Sunday- Joan, en route back to England

Thanks for explaining the font colors. Man lives on ground but can still fly. And with the state of the airlines, sleeping at the airport- probably less comfortable than a tree- seems to becoming the norm. Maybe since birds can fly, the balance is that they can't be comfortable on land. And who would want to be after kissing the clouds? Good use of a form I was unfamiliar with.

Ha-hah, yeah, unless you were Icarus, or Daedalus--his father--of Greek mythological fame, heh-heh.

I gotta say I agree with you, Mr. "T". While having the powers of flight would be pretty cool, I don't think I would enjoy an eagle's diet all that much, nor the places where they reside. I like my meat and potatoes far too much, and my blood's rather thin due to all of the heart medications I'm required to take so I chill quite easily.

A wonderful poem, my friend, and I'd never heard of nor read a "slide sonnet" before I read this one. Heck, I can't write a Shakespearean sonnet so I'm darn sure not gonna try to tackle one of these!

Good stuff, Tom...~Dean :)

What a beautiful form (that I couldn't probably form if my life depended on it). I truly enjoy haw you have put the supposed elegance of a sonnet into a satirical form that just might cause the purists to rebel.

Do not know if would want to live in a nest like theirs, but nothing beats what they symbolize. Well written poem depicting this special species of birds.
