This poem captures the magic and allure of the fire. Camp fires are the best as they are so natural. I remember times in front of an open fire with my kids--glorious days. Well done, Tom.

You really brought me back to camping with your poem. I always look forward to the campfire and take great pride in never needing more than a lighter, newspaper and kindling to get the fire going.

Symmetry is the name of the game here in more ways than one. The is the visual symmetry that hits you the moment you see the poem, the couplet, tecet , quatrain tercet couplet, withe couplets being an example of perfect mirror symmetry. Then the is the symmetry of the rhyme scheme that pivots on the central couplet of the quatrain so that the quatrain in itself is symmetrical and the rhyme schemes of the tercets also are identical and finally there is the aural symmetry one is aware of when the poem is read aloud. This is induced by having only the two rhymes, the c & d in the main body of f the sonnet.

I think it is a form of great beauty and you have chosen an ideal subject for your rendition of it.

HI Tom,
I actually 'see' a person... one hand forward into the fire, bending down toward the fire... (on fire) inside the flames... I can't seem to unsee it... weird how the eyes play tricks on you, isn't it?

she/he is wearing a hat... it's very cool, but very distinct. i love the photo... it's almost like an eskimo woman... into the flames.

oh ... and the poem about it is very mesmerizing... i like that... I, too, can stare at flames forever... it's very calming... trancelike... i love it.

:)
well done
Cat

Excellent photo of a fire that complements your poem perfectly. I enjoyed this Tirrell Sonnet, it has a certain quality. You love the looks of a fire and the smell. In the one but last stanza, did you mean to write pire or should it be fire?

Another lovely piece. I was raised with fireplaces and as my children evolved they learned the joy of bonfires. As the ashes would whirl up into the heavens.

Geez, what a picture. I always look for faces in the flames and I found one in the lower left corner! I can see why pyromaniacs are so fixated!

What a mesmerizing photograph you took--I could almost smell the smoke and feel the heat. I enjoyed the structure and the rhymes, along with the circularity that causes us to be further absorbed by the fire and its surroundings. Well executed in a form new to me- Joan, still en route to Iceland

The Tirrell sonnet has an excellent feel that suits your poem very well
The rhyme scheme with its repetition is very nice
Excellent meter flowing through the poem
You captured the sound, smell and sight of the fire well
Fortunately, you didn't include touch and taste
Great presentation with picture to poem match
and perfect background of night to show off the orange-red flame font
Very well done

Great sonnet. Fire is intriguing, as long as it is under control. When it gets out of control it is damaging everything in its path. Fantastic photo of this specific campfire.
