Hi Tom, I absolutely loved this wonderful poem, I have never heard of a Ballade before but isn't it an interesting format, your beautiful words flow very smoothly and the rhythm is fantastic, I know how hard the rhyming must have been too my friend, thank you for sharing your amazing talent.

A very beautiful ballade. Brings back memories of my own life. The photo is superb, and taken at the right moment. You are a good photographer as well.

There are people who have a knowledge of poetic form that is both wide and deep and yet when they attempt to reproduce such forms, although technically absolutely correct there is no heart, no romance in the lines they write. I call such people poetic technicians, very useful if you want the bare bones of a form but quite useless if you want an example of how these forms can be used to great advantage.
You have the knowledge of which I speak and if you don't you know how to go about finding it but I could never refer to you as a poetic technician. You have a remarkable ability to fit the heart into the poesy, as you have done here. I too remember Tony Fawcus' "Attention Span" and thought it a remarkable piece.
This is not only beautiful it is a complete creation as you say it does not relate to any specific experience, but is a work of fiction pointing to exceptional creativity on your part.
Not that it has anything to do with poetry but you seem to have the photographer's ability to recognize a picture in an everyday occurrence, to create a work of art out of the commonplace, and the good fortune to be in the right place at the right time.

It's a sad ballad but I'm glad to know it is just fictional. The meter is very good as is the enjambment and imagery.

Ballade: Title:This Moon, This Bridge. Theme:The sight of the "moon framed in stone" caused fond memories of love to return but this brings with it the memory of sickness and death of the loved one from the same image of the framed moon. The title is relevant to the poem and in fact names the "place" as the "bridge" which is discovered in the envoy. Comments:The use of poetic devices such as personification "As death's cruel touch" and metaphor "Oh moon, you sing to me a sadder tune," add to the atmosphere and feel of the poem. The feeling of the poem is lament powered by a personal sense of loss "As death's cruel touch decided to deny The wedded happiness that couples chase," which is remembered because of the reflection on the moon framed by the bridge. I found this to be a moving poem with original concepts and and expert and masterly use of language . I was impressed by the chosen meter for this theme and appreciate the difficulties it must have presented. I gave it five stars. I have no six stars left at this time otherwise I would have given it a six.
