This is interesting on several levels. First the subject matter of quantum physics and things being observed. That attention span has more power than I ever imagined.
Second, you have introduced me to a new form of poetry. I have not heard of a ballade. You have done a great job with this one.
And who knew about "stays"?

Good to hear from you, WJD. Thanks for your interesting comments. A pleasure to read and much appreciated. Pantygynt assures me that 'stays' is also a nautical term. It figures, I guess. Sailors have a bit of a reputation for loosening them! Best wishes, Tony

Your author note were rather deep. Like learning new things. I though the poem was amazing. The abab rhyming pattern was good, not forced in any way. And the rhythm was a steady beat. Great job.

A star for grammar, a star for the meter, a star for adhering to selected form, a star for message and a star for sparing Schrodinger's cat...an excellent post, I believe.

Hi there
I had to go out of this, ask Uncle Google what exactly is the definition of attention span. Apart from my own observation!
Attention span is the amount of concentrated time one can spend on a task without becoming distracted. Most educators and psychologists agree that the ability to focus attention on a task is crucial for the achievement of one's goals.
So I guess, for example, to stay in love, to stay married, (to become a successful writer!) it is the ability to focus attention on the task (in this case the ones I mentioned) for the achievement of one's goal.
So in full agreement with your poem.
I also find "that reality is a kind of illusion and exists only when we are looking at it" quite true and fascinating. We had a similar discussion around the dinner table one night on the topic.
I think by dissecting this poem a little, observing its cleverness, that this is worthy of six stars - so why not.

I had a hard time following your poem, Attention Span. I thank you for the notes, the poem makes more sense is your read it. I find the idea fascinating, reality only exists if one or more people observe it.
Good job!

Beautifully expressed and so on target. How quickly our attention span can change the dreams that we have for each other. Such description and passion in your words and perfect from line to line. From stanza to stanza, you had me drawn in.
Simply superb.

An interesting concept to which I would add a loved one exist if they are in one's thoughts. This is very well written with very good imagery and descriptive scheme. It kind of put a whole new meaning to,"I exist therefore I am."

So, Tony, if I understand the gist of this correctly, your poem is basically saying that a long lasting and loving relationship depends on one's attention span, is that about right? Well, if that's so, I would have to agree with you, and it does go both ways. One can pile heaps of attention on someone else, but if that attention isn't reciprocated then it really doesn't matter (matter...get it?), almost as if it never existed.
Excellent use of enjambment from point A to B, and your rhyming was impeccable as it always is.
Great work! ~Dean :}

Ah! Schrödinger's Cat! lol You are both dead AND alive until you open the box!
or... out of sight, out of mind... nah... dead and alive! i love it!
I love the way you leave it all to her... it's her attention span... and you love her so...
on the other hand.... maybe you might stop feeling the same...
on the other hand.... lol
it plays out that it just all depends on who stops first, or who opens the box, as it were...
and if that damn cat is alive or dead and who notices it first! LOL
You show your high intelligence in this poem, Tony! And you're found out!
(by another Cat, no less! ;)
Well done and quite playful a form, just as a cat would play with a feather, bouncing back and forth, lovely and lilting and justcan'tmakeupitsfrickinmind...
well played! well played
I loved it!
Cat (this one is alive and well.... or IS she) ;)

Schrodinger was clearly no great lover of cats, though I rather like them - especially when they write such wonderful reviews. So glad that you are alive and well. Clearly not a cat to be boxed in by anyone!

lol, ah, thanks so much Tony! It IS good to be alive!

Hi Tony,
Many years ago I nearly drove myself insane contemplating this as well as other metaphysical notions.
I love your humorous treatment of this theory. So, a long lasting and loving relationship depends on one's attention span, lol.
Um...I'm ready to move on to another posting. I better save this quick before it loses its energy.
Hugs,
Lou
