To the author of "Birthday Wishes", How very sweet and sad at the same time. My mother was in a nursing home for twelve years and passed at the age of ninety-two. She didn't know her own name, so I can relate to the story. It is done very well in sixty words. Good luck in the contest. Carole

Well done! This competition was really difficult for me. I think this is clearly the winner. It tells a sad and desperate story in so few words. Thank you for sharing.

So sad :( I fear I will end up in a rest home when I am old. I wish I could live with my children but I don't think that is going to happen. Good job!

Sad and poignant, it tells of a whole lifetime in a few words. The illustration is brilliant, it expresses everything. Dementia is a cruel thing. A very moving poem.

A birthday celebration could bring tears instead of joy. You have narrated poignantly in just sixty words the birthday party for Grandma who is 95 year old. The portrait adds deeper feelings for her. A nice contest entry and best of luck.

Well done. A very poignant point made through your story. We as a society have paid for our longevity with greatly diminished quality of life.
The most unfortunate part of this story is to many families it isn't fiction.
Great job telling a very difficult story for families to deal with.

This is a sad, albeit familiar, moment in the ongoing 'long goodbye' experienced by relatives of Alzheimer's sufferers. This snapshot tells a lot about the emotional moments.

Sixty words sometimes is plenty to share a story and sometimes not enough words. I think you nailed it here.

All the components are in place. Nicely done. John

I wasn't sure I could tell this story in 60 words, John, but somehow I did. Thanks so much for sharing "Birthday Wishes" and your very kind praise. Rod

this is so sad, mystery writer, it has to be scary to not know those around you or remember how to do the basic things. my sister in law called me yesterday and said she was looking at the movies in the bin and couldn't remember where she was or how to get to the front of the store. good luck in the contest
