Well, this has to be the best poem
I've read for a long time, Rod -
the words, rhythm and rhyme not only
flow smoothly throughout, you tell
a grand tale so naturally. All in all,
most impressive and had I a six it would
be yours.

I can wish you good luck in the contest though.

Excellent poem. I enjoyed reading this writing.

I saw a pretty face today
with specks of cinnamon

A mint of mirth in clear blue eyes,
two impish lips that smiled.

She grabbed my shirt and pulled me close,
then gave me one sweet kiss.

The story of young love never gets old. You captured both inside this beautifully written poem of childhood and love, loss and growth.
I loved it.
Excellent.

This is an interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of writing. This is quite a comprehensive poem from the author. I read your biography and I admire the fact that you were a teacher. Well done and I loved the poem.

Oh, how I wish I had a six for this most marvelous story-in-a-poem! The rhyme and meter are flawless, the story so tender, so innocently romantic and so very evocative, I pictured everything. I hope you win the contest - this poem has everything!

Memories of a sweet summer crush that perhaps could have been more. This is an endearing poem, one which most of us can relate. You brought this story poem to life and added a personal touch by giving such a descriptive visual. Very creative contest entry.

Nice photo of this pretty girl. You met and bonded during the summer holidays. The next year she is gone, Granddad said, her parents split up and he did not know where she'd gone. I can relate to this. At first I only had holiday friends. Good luck in the contest.

BEAUTIFUL in every way, fills me with sweet memories of my own teenage years and a few, like yours, enchanting, blissful encounters. Indeed, how much has changed since then. Relived when my own children were teenagers and every day when I observe the young, so free in one way, with each other, FORTUNATELY, because many are burdened, "suffer" from personal family situations and more. Poem touches, moves me so deeply that I find it hard to find adequate words to describe, but share same feelings towards the young and the young at heart and meander along with what expressed so tenderly throughout the whole poem. In last four verses, hoping, wishing and then, finally wondering "what if"...
No wonder RECOGNIZED as believe we all can identify with the memories, feelings expressed in this exquisite poem. Thank you so much for sharing. Reminds me too to remain "forever" young at heart, which do, for continue to engage with the young.

Hi there,

I really enjoyed this piece.

The short rhythmic verses provided a good pace to the piece.

This brought back memories for me too. Every year we went to the coast for the holidays. Two different sets of friends.

Of course, it is so much easier for kids these days to keep in touch than it was for us.

Well written and engaging piece.
Good luck in the competition.

This was very precious and tender to me. I'm glad you held onto this memory to write down. In the beginning, some lines were a little forced, but only a tad. I appreciate the photos. When you compared her freckles to cinnamon, your intelligence and poetic nature truly showed.
Marvelous.
