This is an interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of writing. It is touching and sentimental to see the regard that we place in mere dogs.

    Thanks for taking time to check out my poem, Tomes. I'm guessing we have a different take on the relationship between people and other animals. I'd be far more likely to refer to "mere humans" than "mere dogs". I appreciate your kind review. All the best, Craig.

Hi! Let me start by saying that I loved this piece, and I never give a 6 lightly.

Loved by children, known abroad;
by travellers he was adored.

Because I know this is written in Aussie-speak, so to speak, I
'll ask just one question... Did you mean aboard or abroad? lol It works either way, but to my years, aboard is the better rhyme. :)

That all being said, I think this is an excellent entry into the Story in a Poem contest. The rhyme scheme is consistent throughout and impeccable. Thank you for sharing! :)

Kim

    Thank you Kim for your wonderful review, and your generous rating! I do know that extracting a six from you is like pulling hen's teeth, so that makes it even more special ;-)

    I meant abroad, as the story of his exploits spread to (at least) England, where it was reported in newspapers.

    Your encouragement means a lot to me, thanks again. Craig.

I love it, and the photo. You tell the story well, and I was compelled to keep reading. It rhymes well, without any awkward sounding lines. I love the story and Bob the Dog.
Well done!

Very well put together. I liked how the first verses set it up to have a storytelling feel. Nice job taking a true story and converting it to poetry. I also of course, loved the ending of "you just might catch a glimpse of Bob today."

I like your poem and your ability to do poetry in rhyme without making it seem like it is rhyme. It reads smooth to me like free verse (my favorite). Well done!

I'm nuts about dogs and doggie tales. This is a lovely story, a working dog who was so faithful and loyal and stayed where he was loved. Good use of rhyming and heart-warming story. Good luck in the contest. Faye
