This is great. The artwork is perfect. I like the adventures each pirate faces. Good job keeping it kid friendly. Good job on the rhyme and flow,

As to the number of poems in the book: I believe those first few numbers do not designate how many poems are in the book. I think it is the last few numbers [I could be wrong].

Your poem is whimsical and a fun read. [Please read some of mine in my portfolio if you have time].

Good job with this fun poem. I see no changes. Thanks for allowing me a chance to read your poem.

Thank you for the review and the invitation to trawl through your portfolio - I will take you up on it and of course you are welcome to hunt through mine. I've started arranging some of my content into books - Children's Poems, Story Poems etc...

Well you did it justice Steve. Pirates made a good subject for who better to run aground than a nasty ole pirate? Brooke will get a kick out of this. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. We miss her. Well done. Nancy

Thanks, Nancy. Let's hope she gets to see these poems soon. I had this dreadful image of her clutching a huge volume with 10,000 poems in it!

Ah, fun, Steve! I so miss Brooke. You're the only other poet who rhymes like her. I know she'll enjoy reading this. Gee, I hope she eventually gets internet access and hope she gets well enough to use a computer. It must be so hard on her not to be able to stay in touch.
Nice work, Steve. Arrrrr!

Thank you. Let's all hope she is well enough soon to be able to read this outpouring in her honour.

Ah, Steve, you could have made this endeavor half again as easy ... or twice again less hard. Whatever.
Lot's of pirates have a hook replacing one hand. Who could fault a one-handed pirate for only counting to five?
Argh, ain't I brilliant!

I always marvel at the creativity Brooke shows in her counting poems. I'm sure she will award you kudos, even if you didn't think of the hook gambit.

Well done, Steve. I love the patch/scope antic. Truly inspired.

Peace or the plank, Lee

    Thank you!

She made these look easy, especially when it came to rounding the darn things off. I really struggled to get those last two or three sorted out.

Anyway, let's hope her health improves enough for her to enjoy these pieces written in her honour.

Have you heard anything new about Brooke's condition? I've been afraid to ask. L

Just what's in Miranda's posts in the forum thread. 'Resting' and 'free of pain' apparently. I think the plan is for her to move into some sort of care facility (in California which I take it is where Miranda lives) hen she is discharged from hospital. The unspoken assumption is that she will never be well enough to live independently again which doesn't sound good.

I have this terrible 'joke' in my head - two poets are discussing the death of a well-known colleague and one says 'Everybody moves up one' - very apt regarding FanStory rankings but not appropriate to share!

But exactly the type of humor Brooke would appreciate. One exceptional woman.

I've sent her a few PMs, but I don't know if they're getting through.

    Thanks for the update. Lee

I don't think she has access to a computer at the moment. Everything seems to be coming through Miranda, who has an account here under the name lafaerychik

Thanks for the info, Steve. Truth be told, I'm writing these PMs more for my benefit than Brooke's. Kind of like talking to someone in a coma. Do know what else to do.

I loved this. As an elementary teacher, I could definitely envision it as a counting book. Children are very intriqued by pirate characters, and many children today are not exposed to enough rhyme and word play. I am brand new to the site, and not familiar with Brooke, but hope all is okay with her.

Thanks, Linda, and a big welcome to FanStory.

I agree with hat you say about kids and books - I am currently looking for a publisher for some of my kids' poems. Take a look through my portfolio if you'd like to join in the fun. I have three 'books' in there that all contain multiple poems:
Gobbledegooks, Cheezel the Weasel and Steve's Children's Poems.

Hope to read some of your wwork soon.

I love Brooke's counting poems and I am sure she will be delighted with this one. I agree, they are very hard to do since I have tried and failed several times tow write one. No, there aren't 1001 chapters to this book. Apparently someone forgot to put in the chapter number and the site made one up. If you notice there are numerous 1001 chapters listed as 1001. I am sure they will sort it all out when they send this to Brooke. Very, very nice work with this one. I enjoyed it very much.

    Thanks, Sasha.

Like everyone, I guess I'm just wishing that Brooke gets well enough soon to enjoy the tributes flowing her way.

This one should keep young Sawyer amused! It is great reading it aloud. Loved the 'I hope you're counting' bit! Apart from the fact that she is ill, I don't know what is actually the matter with Brooke. Do you? I've always been entertained by her counting rhymes, too. Yours is up there with the best of them.

    Thanks, Tony.

I found myself slipping into repetitive stuff here - hence the attempt to vary it a bit with 'I hope you're counting....' - also trying to imagine actually reading this to a youngster and getting them involved.

this is a lovely tribute to Brooke, especially when it was her suggestion to use pirates in your counting poem, which you have done very successfully. I hope she gets to read your poem dedicated to her.

Well done
Mary
