What butterfly am I looking at then, Dawn? The one above your amazingly wonderful, delightful, so perfectly written with such graphically gorgeous imagery and must win poem, is beautiful! I will have to have a look on Google, but I think the photo of the butterfly you have here, really is lovely. This whole set up, the illustration, the amazing poem, the colours, everything screams at me to vote for this one!!! And I am off to do that right now! Good luck my friend. :) Sandra xxxx

Well, it seems it's not going to win, but I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm, and your vote! Personally, I was taken aback by the shocking number of really terrific poems (I liked them all, but I especially loved one free verse and one about PB&J - LOL - am I allowed to say that?) I say it over and over - this site has some truly talented writers as members, and it seems to be my luck to encounter them whenever I enter a contest!!!! (Hahahahaha!) But it's all so subjective when members are voting anyway, isn't it?
Thanks so much, Sandra - means more than you know.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem. So carefully constructed with musicality and visual images. I especially liked the alliteration in the first two lines. What splendid artwork. What region are they found in?

Wow--it is hard to believe that the picture is not retouched! Most worthy of an ode, and the adjacent Rainbow caterpillar is amazing!! Your rhymed couplets and rhythm in these quatrains matched the stunning, "ambling" "toy". Best wishes in the contest- Joan

'But then again, perhaps you do, God loves to see a dance -
though surely jigs will be more jaunty once you shed those pants!
At first I hardly dared have faith you weren't, in fact, a toy -
your glowing green, your pink and purple painted by some boy.'
I love the whimsical nature of this excellent contest entry, Dawn, as evidenced by the above. You picked the perfect picture subject for which to compose your Ode. This deserves to win the contest, in my humble opinion.
Bravo!

Truly loved this poem. It's flow and rhyme was excellent. Of the poems I have read by you, this is one of my favorites. The picture chosen was very beautiful but your words more so. It is a thing of perfection this rainbow caterpillar and ultimately a gift for the Maker of this world. Six stars!

Dawn;
-When using advanced settings you could use both pictures. Just by going to the second picture and write pressing your mouse and then choosing copy image And then going to your writing and pressing control windows and the V your second picture will appear on that page that your writing.
-Good use of enjambment
-Excellent rhyming couplets, where each rhyming word is contingent to the meaning and concept of each line therefore making the rhythm flow smoothly.
-Iambic heptameter used in the rhythmic meter and the cadence, timing and tempo were all helpful in making the reading clear, fluid and easy.
-I never saw a rainbow caterpillar but now I wish to see one.
-Thank you so kindly for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always my friend.

It makes me laugh too. I think tomorrow my first graders are going to make rainbow caterpillars. I think that would be great and they will write a poem about it. Good luck with the contest.

I liked the light-hearted approach when comparing the rather gauche caterpillar to its post metamorphic state. How very beautiful, lovely picture. Excellent use of language and rhyming to pen your ode. Good luck in the contest. Faye

Oh, wow, I never heard of this spectacular creature and will definitely Google it.
Now my curiosity is raging. Your line: ...will soar without those clothes Does that mean it's no longer colorful as a butterfly?
This is my favorite line:
and heaven knows the Master's hand will always get it right.
Well done, Dawn. Hugs, Lou

O' you with hues as bold as brass, flaunt Nature's endless love -
you're aptly named, sweet butterfly, a promise from above
that rainbows always will appear; they celebrate the rain,
and caterpillar's slow demise is elegance's gain.
A most impressive poem about the beautiful butterfly - so aptly described in its rainbow colours - the words, and both rhythm and rhyme flowing perfectly throughout ... which merits a six.
good luck with the contest, Dawn.
