Isn't that the truth....If it wasn't for "The Board of Education" where would some of us be right now and how would we act. Kind of a scary thought sometimes. Overall wonderfully written. I am sure your father would be proud of you.

A truly great poem that talks of life experience. I think your daddy and my daddy went to the same school.

You have developed great rhythm and rhyme here as well as delivering a really good message.

This was a most enjoyable read even if it did revive old memories of sore bums

Yes, and I may even say very much needed, on occasion, sore bums. Thanks for your comments. Appreciate them.

I can see your father applied the tough love rule. If some parents were more consistent about their child's learning ,there will not be so many dropouts from school. When their teenager abuses the privilege of driving they should also take their car keys until they learn the responsibility that goes with it. Very good message within.

Yes, my Dad knew exactly what I needed and when I needed it. Always the board of education...along with other things such as taking my keys from me. Lost them for the whole summer. Not a good situation. I learned that lesson real well.

Yes ,there should be more fathers like that. That's the only way to learn.

What a truly heartfelt piece of writing. I actually teared up as I read it and loved how you created such a perfect visual of this child growing up and doing the things that all of us did during our youth. Your picture choice was excellent to "top off" your fine work. Kindly, Judy

I had a Dad I treasure to this very day. This poem was easy for me to write. It just took me 5 years to be brave enough to post it somewhere. I can not believe the incredible responses I have received from it. Thanks for your comments. Appreciate them very much.

This is an outstanding tribute to a Father who cares. I love the scenes depicted, the word choice , and the repeating phrase. You learn by experience. I feel the appreciation for your Dad's love and discipline. I like the way you expressed your message. Great job.

The board of education is the family and friends as for the poet. From childhood the only board of education is the closed circle of family!
That is great, the poet sees some strange burning experience in the education system outside the premises of the closed surroundings.
Lines are rhythmic and recommended for the genius who never attend periodic classes.

A sweet picture--a child at a chalkboard, followed by the visual of the Board of Education being used in a different way:)
clever and fun, but that was probably a painful way to learn---all I needed
was my dad's stern voice to keep me in line:)

Thank you for your comments. Appreciate them very much. I was a very stubborn mulehead, at times. Dad knew exactly hat he was doing to keep me in line.

It sounds like you had somewhat of a hard head, and perhaps a hard behind if you did not learn your lesson after the application of the "board of education" to the backside.

Ha ha. Have to learn he hard way, huh. Can relate to that. I had a father who used similar tactics and can't say it wasn't deserved, or that it ever harmed me. This poem brought back memories and gratitude for a parent who thought it important to remind us that there are consequences for our behavior. An occasional (ok bend over) didn't send me over the edge because itlways hut him more than it did him. I know because that is what he always told us...lol

I have no more stars to give,
You captured my attention from the first line to the last.
I had to smile for I can relate of all the things I learned in life nothing sticks to me like glue like the education I received from my mother.
