Very well written, Karen. Superb! Everything you mention in here can be related to by seniors like us. The thing Im can't figure is why...and discount the money, these people get these ridiculous face-lifts- botox etc. My God...Melanie Griffith, and Priscilla Presley? Why in the hell did she mess with her face? Joan Rivers is gone...so they can stop trying to better her. Whew! (Bless her)

Yeah...that's a good idea...let's inject poison into our faces to look more like Frankenstein?

You appear to look damned good to me, Karen. Keep up the good work. Great write...I enjoyed it. Bob

Ha! Thanks so much, Bob. I appreciate your review and the shiny star. I agree that some people go way too far to preserve their looks and then it backfires on them. I can think of several men who have done the same thing. Kenny Rogers comes to mind. And thank you for the compliment--only my hairdresser knows for sure. 8-)

My assessment is that women are like fine vintage wines. They only get better with age. This is in direct opposition to my opinions on how we men age, which is more like milk. LOL...

That being said, isn't a bit ironic that God, in His infinite wisdom, enables women to age more gracefully, become more desirable (in many respects), while allowing us to become more and more like couch potatoes? Of course, I'm only voicing my opinion -- the odd way I have at looking at most things.

My father is a huge fan of those funny "Maxine" comics. I've no doubt that after having read your writing, he would be a fan of yours as well.

Live long, collect Social Security, and stay healthy. That's my motto!

Good stuff, boxergirl. :) ~Dean

You hit the nail on the head, Dean. Like a fine wine... I spill that one out often.
Maybe God, in His infinite wisdom, knew that we women would be too vain to handle a speedy transition to old age.
Glad your dad likes Maxine; I usually go in the Hallmark store and spend ten or fifteen minutes just reading her cards.
Thanks so much for your review and for your well wishes too! 8-)

What a delightful essay for the contest, BG. I'm sixty-one so I could relate to the feeling of excitement about all those discounts! It's great to be alive now and not so darned worry about doing or saying just the right thing. I love Maxine, so you definitely picked one of my idols to illustrate your story. Good luck with this gem in the contest! :) Bev

Thanks, Bev. I am glad to see you could appreciate my point of view and also that you share my same sentiments about embracing a new day. I really like Maxine's humor. Sometimes I just stop by the Hallmark store and spend 10 minutes or so reading any of her new cards. 8-) I just saw the tip - Thanks.

Every day that you wake up on the green side of the grass is a good day. I am 75, boxer girl, still loving every moment, traveling, laughing, having fun and collecting the social security check every day since age 62. Good choice on your part. Get it while they got it and while you can still get out to spend it. Very nice essay.

Maxine is great!
This is a fun commentary on aging, with helpful
information as an extra:)
It is a bonus that assertiveness comes with the wrinkles:)

Oh wow, this is chicken soup for my 64 year old soul. I can relate so. I am just happy to be 64, and not in a grave yet! I also changed my personality from a shy girl to a brave woman. Thank you so much for this delightful piece on aging! I feel younger just to have read it. It is a blessing to all of us who are whatever age we are young.

Great writing here.

Hi, Boxergirl....

I love this! My girlfriend always referred to my mom as 'Maxine.' She surely was a hoot too.

I love your sense of humor in this. I just turned '65' March 21, but in my head, I'm still 30-something--though my body sometimes begs to differ! (*<* ) So, you go, girl!

Great entry----good luck in the contest.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'.... Jax (*:*)
