What a delightful anecdote from your youth. There is so much truth here in the way young children try to make literal sense of their world in terms of the limited and sometimes conflicting information of their eyes and what they have been told. The results can sometimes be hilarious! I did enjoy this. The dialogue is just perfect!

Thank you, Tony. I am having fun writing down my childhood memories. I want to put them all together for my grandchildren to read to their children. By then, they will know where babies come from long before they go to school, in fact I think most do already! LOL. I am really glad you enjoyed it. xsx Sandra.

What a lovely story Sandra, I can remember very few details from my childhood, just had thoughts of myself. I'm amazed you remember so much! But I do remember puzzling about the baby issue, we didn't know either, I do remember mum being gone for a couple of weeks when my my brother was born, dad cooked egg and chips almost everyday, nowadays they're only gone for a day! Hilarious account of your early days, well written, Sandra, riveting stuff, blessings, Roy,

It's funny how much I do remember, I don't remember what I did yesterday, but 60 years ago is coming through loud and clear!! Crazy, isn't it. I want to write as many of my funny memories down for my grandchildren. It should give them a giggle. Thank you so much, my friend for another of your lovely reviews. :) Sandra. xsx

I love the innocence of children then, Sandra. Kids know way too much way too early now...but the dandelion seed story is a bit much! LOL I enjoyed your story and the only thing I might suggest is to look over the narrative, especially in the first part of the story. You use past tense for your narrative except for a few present tense sentences thrown in. Unless it's a different part of the story or a pause in telling, consistency in tense makes for a better story.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Hi, Karyn, thank you for that, I have gone back and hopefully put them all right. I'll have another look in a minute just to make sure I haven't missed any. Thank you, my lovely friend, for your lovely review. The dandelion story was true, I stayed out of the field after that! LOL. Thanks again for the help. :) Sandra. xsx

Hi Sandra,

I got a really good laugh from this in places. The scene with Pat at the swings is priceless. So is the bit where Dad says to Kelvin 'Isn't it exciting?' and he says 'No'. Lol!

Couple of small errors:

Taking Kelv down to the swings, Mum, Okay. - small o on okay

'She's still, Dad, isn't she?" capital S

Your Mummy's tummy - small m

Another playmate for you both to play with. To play with is redundant.

Really enjoyable piece.

Best wishes,

Alison

Not an error in sight, Sandra. I'm so enjoying these stories from your childhood because, apart from being beautifully written, they remind me of me at that age too. Those were the days, weren't they? As you say, it was normal (I presume) not to know the facts of life until you reached puberty, and then you just had to hope you weren't told by your friends in case they put you off the idea of sex for life!
This is a great entry, and I'm sure will do well!

I still remember when I was told, it was by the same friend who told me the baby was in my mums tummy. It really shocked me, especially when my parents went to bed. I knew then they had 'done it' four times by then. We had another brother later. Fancy having to do that 4 times!! LOL, I'm glad you enjoyed it, Alexis, thank you for your lovely review! :) Sandra.

Verrrry interesting, Sandra. So you really didn't know till the day your sister was born. Wow. We havvve come a long way. My mom never told me the facts of life either. She said that God planted a seed in the heart of a mother. I spent the next few years wondering how a baby could grow in a person's heart. :)

We were told some funny things in those days, weren't we. My mum was too shy to tell me about my periods, and stood behind the door with just her head peeping round the corner. I told her I already knew because my friend was already having hers. Mum just went scarlet and went back into the kitchen where my dad was laughing his head off, she told me years later. I liked your story, that is sweet, better than rolling in dandelions! LOL. Thanks Phyllis. xxxx

I remember sitting on the top step leading to the cellar eating an Ice Cream cone when My mom had my little brother. I was two and a half years old. I was really scared because I could tell mom was getting hurt in that front bedroom. That's all I remember about it. I don't remember him again until he was walking and throwing a hairbrush at me that broke a French door window that divided the Living room and Dining room. LOL This is so cute. Wish I had a six Sandra. We get ours in the morning. Good luck. :<) Nancy

LOL, isn't it lovely having younger brothers? It is frightening though, our mums had their babies at home, well most of them did. It wasn't heard of going into hospital back then. We lived way out in the country, and no one had cars, so the midwives came to the houses. Which meant we heard most of what was going on. Scary stuff. Thanks for sharing your story, my friend, and the good luck wishes. :) Sandra. xsx

A delightful and beautifully written story on the lovely innocence of children. Your story flows well and is realistic, the dialogue reflecting accurately the way children talk and think. Well done, I enjoyed the read. Wendy.

Thank you so much, Wendy. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just simple memories of how my brother and I looked on the happenings around us. I have to laugh at some of the weird ideas we had back then. 60 years ago!! :) Sandra.

this is a cute story, Children as they are learning the facts of life are told so many times fairy tales, when they should be told the truth from the get go. My oldest daughter was 6 when I had a discussion with her on this subject ad her reaction was precious,. She said, "you mean you and daddy did that." I had told her in very simple terms how it happened.

I was really shocked when I found out the truth, I think I was 10 when a friend told me. I just couldn't believe my parents did THAT! LOL, I was never going to get married! Thank you so much for your lovely review and sharing your story. I can just imaging your daughter's face! LOL. :) Sandra.

She was just about 3 when we were visiting my twin brothers home and their little boy a few months younger than she was went to the bathroom, stood in from of the toilet and whipped out his little dingy and peed, my daughter saw this. When we got back home I walked by the bathroom and there she was standing in front of the toilet holding her hand down in front of her and the look on her face was priceless, she looked like she had lost something she was sure she had lost.

Glad I stopped to read. My best friend just had her baby on Thursday. Boy she was big a house. That baby blew her up. And we was a week late. My son is now 14teen and doctors say he was born six weeks early too. Lovely â?´

Thank you so much, my friend. I hope your friend and her baby are both doing well. I bet your son is fine, too, after being born premature. My son was a prem too, and he is 6ft 2in tall, and as strong as an ox, with children of his own. Thank you for your lovely review! :) Sandra.
