There are many such serene places like the one you described. I too live in Florida and I have had the pleasure to visit your special place that you've described so well. I especially like the fearsome banana spiders and other wildlife in the swamp lands where blackened trees wade in the water of the Everglades. Thank you for taking us on a magical carpet ride through the tropical region of Mother Nature's splendor that we lovingly call our home... Florida. Flawlessly written and a contender for this contest prompt.

K. Lorraine: I was not describing the Everglades, and we have no swamps. I'm describing a wooded area outside of Gainesville, about half way to Archer. I thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts with me. livelylinda

That was my second guess. I live in SW FL in Ft. Myers close to the Everglades and it is remarkable that no matter where in Florida the scenic beauty is similar and unlike any other place in the world. I really enjoyed your story... K. Lorraine

Hi,
Something odd seems to have happened with the layout which is a bit off putting. Apart from this though, it is a pretty well written piece with good use of descriptive language and feels like a tour.
Nicely done.
Good luck

giraffmang: I did nothing odd or different with the layout but I did notice the picture ended up in the middle of the story instead of the head of it. Again, not by my choice. Sometimes that happens but self-corrects later. One of the mysteries of the site! LOL. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts with me. livelylinda

Such a se3nse of intimacy comes through in this piece; intimacy and love. Your descriptions are vivid, each incident seeming to leave its own echoes of silence and solitude - 'the natural deep woods isolation' that refreshes the soul. One feels the eye of God everywhere here, and not just in the rat snake.

Tony: it is Holy ground and God's presence is palpable - inside the church and outside. Thanks for reading, understanding and sharing your thoughts of the piece with me. Linda

This place sounds like a place I grew up in Florida. I was very young but the memory of the woods and the spanish moss and little churches still remain. Very well written. I can imagine it all. Good luck with the contest. Nan

nana's stories: this property is on Archer road about halfway between Gainesville and Archer. There is just one little church and it looks more like an over gown chicken coop than a church on the outside. But, inside it is all church. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. livelylinda

Hi,
Nice visualization with this story. I'd like to visit it.
Check your last few lines. Looks like some FS spacing issues.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you, Jax, for reading and pointing out the spacing problems. I type it correctly but I don't know what happens after that!

The FS software can be a pain. Sometimes you have to delete and recopy/paste.
Are you using the 'Advanced Editor?' Use it, then click on the copy icon at top of page. Just like in our word doc. Copy/paste from there. (*,*)
