Dean: I so agree with you on this subject. Great awareness of bullies, cutting, depression, drinking and suicide.

I am involved in Moms in Prayers and Pray 40 for youth and schools. We are adding more moms (dads too), pastors and teachers to pray and cord (agree) with us to stop these issues.

My daughters have been bullied and hurt by others in school. First time, we told the principal...favors the boys and sports. This time, we got the police involved to stop the bullying.

I wrote about this in your horror contest with the bonfire.

God bless the work of your words for awareness in the nations.

Just this past year I attended a funeral for the daughter of a friend age 25 who shot herself in the head. She was just 2 weeks older than my oldest grandson. Suicide is a horrible thing. Thanks for this message and I agree, parents get involved in your child's life. Patricia

This needs a six or more for the powerful message it delivers, Dean. Thanks for all the statistics in the Author's notes, also.
The poem is written so well and the repetitive "I'm gonna" makes for a dynamic read.
one suggestion:
In the third verse, you have "I gonna" instead of 'I'm gonna" --probably just a typo
Many parents aren't doing much parenting these days-they're just providing a roof and bed for the child and he/she has to grow/shape/suffer on their own.
This was a wonderful piece. Please have it published widely.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful comments, Shirley. I really do appreciate it. Thanks too for catching that error for me, and it has since been corrected. You know, I must've read and edited this poem twenty times or more, and still that got overlooked. I think they need to give me some stronger meds at my doctors office, LOL. ;)

Dean this needs a six for author notes alone..
Yet another reason to homeschool...I did and we had a bond because my husband and I were who my kids flopped on the bed and discussed things with...anything! I had a friend who sliced her wrists...she did it shallowly ..she said she wanted attention. Bulimia and anorexia are other ways. My girls close friend died that way. It was a control thing that got out of control
God bless

You can feel the dark, intense pain in this work - suicide among teenagers is on the rise. They get so many mixed messages from teachers, schools, friends, parents - they loose perspective and don't know who to trust or where to go for help.

It is a difficult line to manage, but parents must pay attention. Sometimes they take a slower road, but they are ultimately after the same dark goal. It is critical parents pay attention and pray for guidance.

Well-penned on a vital subject. Jean

Interesting and sad notes, Deano.

Of course, these youngsters need the support of family, but I suspect a lot of the time the family aren't aware because the kids don't tell them, and the parents just think they have 'normal' teen 'attitude'.

Very dark and dramatic emotions of self harm, suicide and general hopelessness.

Why is he grateful his parents bought a gun - is it because it's another potential weapon of suicide he could use?

When he says he wants to come back -- do you mean to haunt them or just check them out?

Best wishes, Ray

Yes, Ray. He's happy they bought a gun so he can use it on them, then turn it on himself. I suppose it's more of an occurrence here in the US than in Great Britain. What he wishes to come back to is the life he had in the land of the living. Hell, it's quite cold and damp down deep in the grave, so what's not to want to come back to? LMAO!

    Thanks kindly for your review.

    Cheers! ~Dean

Thanks for the explanation, Deano, and I apologise for my denseness - my excuse being I'd only just woken up this am.

I ain't having no damp cold grave scenario, and I'm looking forward to the cremation flames instead. MWAHA!

    Cheers, mate. Ray

No worries, Rayman. I appreciate the review. I have not been to bed yet, so I'm still pretty frosty, LOL. 36 hours and counting. Damn publishing editors. They are a very demanding lot!

I wish these kids who think suicide is a way out could get more help more often. It is such a shame when a young man or woman dies by suicide. One thing though, if it is a choice between suicide and going on a killing spree I'd rather the suicide. This is a very thought provoking poem and I thought it worked well. I did not notice any spags.

I am gonna write review now
That should send shivers, you know how
I'll pierce this site with my knife
And throw my pen, part of all my strife.

This knowledge we all welcome,
But children today are so pretty awesome
They'll kill for sport and they'll kill for fun
They'll kill for sure, it could be you, me, anyone.

Great poem, Dean. Let that message spread.

Hi, Dean,

Suicide is such a troublesome problem in such baffling times. So many kids these days are left to their devices while Mom and Dad are working----warning signs go undetected. So many other reasons too, far out-reaching.

Great work in showing the reality.

Cheers & Blessings
