This is wildly creative and seems the perfect answer to this neat contest. Based on the presentation and horrific yet magnificent imagery I do believe I could guess the author but will keep that to myself. :)

Excellent job here! I think Phyllis will be thrilled to read this. I think this one will do great in the contest and I wish you the best of luck!

I think there is only one writer here that could put a dark spin on Phyllis' cute little penguins:) You took this challenge to a new level with a clever spin.

    I tied, Teresa, I truly did. Reviews have been rather mixed, and it probably won't win the contest. But, as long as Phyllis gets a kick out of it, that's all that truly matters to me.

    Thanks for an awesome review! ;)

ROTFLMAO!

Phyllis' penguins, DK's love of squeamish, a commentary on rankings and the truth of addiction - all rolled up in a rhymed dissertation! Leave it to you to find the darker side of our passion!!

Great write! Phyllis' penguins will be horrified by the illustrations!!!! LMAO

I know this is supposed to be a bit of fun and they are singing penguins after all but penguins don't live in the arctic. It is incredibly pedantic of me but there you go I have said it now.

This is a rather ingenious take on the prompt, told in the style of Frankenstein but in poetic form (Shelly's writing is very poetic in its own way). The rhymes were great and it was good fun.

Great art work to accompany. Very reminiscent of someone whose name escapes me.

Nicely done and good luck in the competition.

    In the book, Frankenstein, the expeditionary team took to Antarctica to locate his escaped monster, Gareth. This was not meant as an Animal Planet documentary, but rather a fun sort of "what if" scenario. The reference was made in respect to both Mary Shelley's classic novel, and Phyllis Stewart's singing penguins, which kinda creep me out, by the way.

    Thanks for the review. :)

Hi the author,

An amusing wander into the realms of Frankenstein, and a neat poke at the work of Phyllis Stewart. An enjoyable read, made easier by the use of italic and 'ordinary' script to indicate a change of narration.

    Thanks, Patrick. I was hoping that would make it read mcuh easier, especially given the fact that on a couple of occasions the narrators overlap one another. I'm very happy it worked out, and I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful review. :}

Hi,

What a cool presentation and interpretation you gave for the prompt. Such a great story, Stewartein's Monsters indeed! You did an excellent job explaining how the penguins evolved and have staying power.

Excellent job. The best of luck in the contest.

Oh This deserves a 6 but I'm out of them. Brilliant is what I think of this work. Don't know how you think of these poems Anon H'm!!! St4 L1 'Beaties' should be 'Beauties' or maybe 'Beasties' - minor typo. Phyllis will be thrilled with I'm sure and this poem will take some beating. Good luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy xx

    Thanks, Dorothy, and your kind comments are worth far more than any "sixer" you could award me. I'm just very happy that you enjoyed it. I'll have to do some quick work to correct that typo. I swear, I have edited and reedited this probably fifty times, and still I missed it!

OK... that was really creepy but I enjoyed it. Gripping imagery and interesting cadence.. like monster penguins waddling and stumbling a bit. A fun read!

    Hah, my nose is already frozen, dear Drew. It's twelve degrees here right now, and still dropping!

    Thank you for your very generous rating and thoughtful review. I too greatly admire Phyllis. She's one heck of a writer, and a great lady to boot!

    Thanks again. ;}
