And I thought they were so sweet and harmless! It never occured to me that they might have a sinister side, but I'm sure Phyllis knows what she's doing. They seem to behave themselves fairly well for her, and their singing is legendary. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks, Cindy, and they behave because they are powerless under her spell, and they fear the ramifications of not doing what she tells them to do. Oh, if only you knew! Heh-heh-heh...

    Thank you for your review.

haha. lol. lmao. this is a hilarious take on the writing prompt although it is gloomy and and has a morbid atmosphere! it is well presented and flows like water off a duck's back, or penguins in this case:)
thank you for sharing dear anon!

Thanks, Rebekka, I sure hope Phyllis liked it. Her novels have a dark sinister aspect to them as well, if you think about it, so this was a nod to her writing as well.

    I appreciate all of your kind and thoughtful comments. :}

a little off beat but right up your alley pally quite a tale you have come up with a tribute to Phyllis so she will forgive you of and nightmares she may have over this. Maybe if you give her a stiff drink(COFFEE

When I read the title to this piece, never in a billion
years would I have guessed that it would be about
Phyllis Stewart's penguins - oh, my gosh, what a
different picture of them you have painted - quite
literally - your story will certainly stand out amongst
the others
good luck in the contest

Mary Shelly, Boris Karloff, Phyllis Steward and her Penguin Family would all be proud of this contribution. It's funny and just a little eerie to make it wonderful entertainment. Good luck in the contest as well.

LOL - There is no doubt in my mind who wrote this. Good grief, how am I ever going to think of the penguins as cute little creatures now that I know they're zombies, sort of. Good luck in the contest. Hugs, Lou

I am still trying to fathom what inspires this sort of deep poetry. I have not experienced it. Perhaps, this would serve as my own springboard, inspiring me to write better than i do now.

Yes, If we are preoccupied with the quest for knowledge, we would find it.
That was the underlying philosophy that has help me in my little progress in writing.

Brabazon.
