Having lived on the streets myself, I can really relate to this one. I had no place to wash my face, no toothbrush, no comb and obviously no place to sleep. Hard to get back on your feet when you look and smell like you haven't bathed in a month. I found this a deeply moving story and think so many would benefit from a second chance. You are right, there are many that are not interested or willing to go for a second chance. But just the thought of someone offering one, brought tears to my eyes.

Sometimes wives just know. The story is very telling of your character. Your wife is precious for accepting a stranger into your home. I would do that in years past pick a family or two from my patient list from where I work. I know them and their troubles. This year it is the daughter of one of my co-workers . The daughter had a premature baby on Sunday and won't be home for months. the hospital is two hours away and the mom is being discharged today. I gave her money so she can rent room at the hospital instead of staying in a motel room or driving back and forth.
Christmas is a time to be thankful for your blessings and bringing joy to someone else. Nursing homes are another good place to bring cheer. A lot of them have no families at all.
Thank you for such a heart warming story , Mike.

The spirit of Christmas means giving rather than receiving. Just by coming up with the idea means you and your wife care. Imagine how it turned that man's life around and how much pleasure it brought you. Great story with warm feeling this Christmas. Most enjoyable and good luck in the contest. Merry Christmas to you and your family Faye

This is a beautiful story. What precious people would do this. I always buy a number of turkey dinners for poor families but a whole new start would be awesome. Merry Christmas to the two of you and may the coming year treat you well.

Mikey--This is quite splendid. My attention was gripped from the time when you were passing out $20 bills to the very end. Your efforts are exactly what trust is: doing what you think is right, without knowing the results. And then there is the writing. You inspire me with your crisp, sparse narrative. And then there is the dialogue which gives each person a clear voice. Thank you so much for this inspirational story, and the lovely example of how you crafted it. Caroline

Boy, that is a lot of trust. Walk the talk and talk the walk- yes, but with many mental health facilities shuttered , you would really have to be selective on who to take in. You and your wife are doing great work.

I think this would be a good idea, Mikey. What you have told us about the opportunity to get work and how for a homeless person, it was nigh on impossible, is true, when you really stop and think about it. There must be thousands out there in this position, but then again, what your wife said about looking for the 'harmless' looking homeless person, also holds true. You don't know who you are taking into your home, could he kill you during the night? Rob you blind while you are asleep. The idea is brilliant, but you have to be really careful too. This is a really great story, Mikey, you really are a talented writer. :) Have a wonderful Christmas, my friend, and a healthy, happy, (and safe) 2015! xsx sandra

You have a great smart and nice wife, that's it's obvious; so nice that you listen to her...tell her so. My hat, or my heart goes to her. This is an inspiration to all of us, we can make a difference, for the best.

Another great one and a strong contender in the contest. Held my attention right to the end
Good message of not only trust but kindness to a less fortunate fellowman. This is what Jess expects of us. i don't let people into my home because of the crime possibility but I help a particular in the neighborhood.
Good luck in the contest
