Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Six stars for the powerfulness, insight honesty and sheer bravery of the piece.

I am sure many will not like to hear it but I have wondered about this for some time. I am not an American but I think many Americans have become accustomed to a lot of propaganda and jingoism when it comes to looking at themselves and how they carry out their affairs.

I know all to well about discrimination and propaganda. I grew up in the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland with two sides re-writing history for their own ends, with a high police and military presence. We had to look at ourselves before looking at each other.

A great, well written, informed piece.

Thank you very much. No many people hate to face the hard truths we live in, but change is never easy. Part two is posted.

I found this most informative. You've set it out well so that it is believable and makes sense. Most of all it is honest and comes from a reliable source. No doubt you see the truth before your eyes. Giddy

she attended the parole hearing and take him home after. [if you use the past tense ATTENDED, you need to use the past tense TOOK him home.]

the boy of denied parole and given another 90 days [the boy WAS ? denied parole}

Looking at the bar graph, it's also interesting to note that Blacks have the lowest rate of suicide which (correct me if my probable over-simplification is too far wrong)is hate turned against oneself. It seems like there is a healthier self-respect among the blacks than any other group, with whites having the least.

I have no idea what conclusions to draw from those statistics. I'll certainly be anxious to read your next post.

This is an intelligent article and one which no news media would ever think to print. I am surprised with some of the things you say, as in "Look, there is a reason I used the word cowardly. I did so because nothing I wrote is unknown to anyone in America. The reason why people protest the police killing of black men is because the protesters know that the police will not kill them." I am surprised because I thought that many liberals really believed what they say they believe--which is that no black people are responsible for what happens--it's all because of how they've been treated by whites. (An attitude which I think shows an arrogant superiority complex.) Anyway, this is articulate and well written. Tho, you do have some typos...

Maybe on (one)day they'll get around ,
DC, Boston, and St. Luis(Louis)

All these years I watched black bodies pile up in Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Cleveland, Memphis, DC, Boston, and St. Luis, not to mention the #Bringourgirlsback (and all the hard work people did typing on twitter.) >> The previous sentence fragment, in parentheses, makes the entire sentence awkward. I think it needs to be worded differently.

she attended the parole hearing >and< (to) take him home after(ward)

the boy >of< (was) denied parole and given another

he'd have (a) gun in (his) hands tonight, and God

They made no mention of all the young black(men) who died in the streets of Chicago that very same day.

If people protested in front of (a) gang house or a trap house,

"No, but why not, if she('s) always so mad?" I asked. /

By the way, I think it is admirable that you are trying to do something about the rampant killings in black neighborhoods by writing articles like this. You probably get a lot of criticism for speaking out. (I know you had a lot of typos here, but I still give you an excellent score because what you've written is important and well said.)

Hi, Lance,

This is a powerful story, and an all too familiar occurrence these days. And what you say, about the media is sadly true. The run with one story and forget about another half-dozen that are just as important.

It was sad the kid didn't get out, but I can certainly understand the board member's line of thought.

I look forward to part 2.

Cheers & Blessings

In the Navy and in industry I worked with black men, and this problem has set me wondering-are there two species of black men? The ones I knew were just men
making a living like the rest of us. Not bullies, not killers, not whiners. your essay was very informative and well written.

Amazingly honest. Well written and to the point. Do you really have a follow-up post that offers solutions? Boy would I love to read that. I could give a zillion reasons for this situation, from psychological hindsight, however, a solution, I fear I have none.

I can only sit here on the other side of the world and feel shocked by what you present here; not with your ideas and points of view, but the horrible statistics and appallingly high death rates via murder. Judging by your back story, you are very close to these issues and feel passionately about them. Your ideas seem cogent to me and are well expressed and backed by telling facts. I look forward to reading your solutions essay.

Truth always hurts, that is why majority won't like what you have to say. The opening paragraph is the key, the 'victim' always tries to justify the situation by claiming victimisation. They got all the rights but they still keep on killing and complaining. My son always says the Police are heavy-handed, but they are still doing their job and justified to try and defend themselves. I believe, as he does, that the hatred that is being fostered between the races is a deliberate ploy to create more unrest and destroy American society and way life. The media does not cover the murders of Black on Black, the protesters don't show up except when a white officer is involved -all points to this. You are to be admired for your courage in writing this, your job must be a hard job, too. Very well written commentary, I look forward to reading your possible solutions. Political Correctness is the overriding destructive force. Thank you for sharing this. Faye

I found your article very interesting and at the same time, thought provoking, generally what you say is not copy, so the very human beings that could influence poeple, newspapers, have gone awol, it seems they run with the story that will sell papers. There are many injustices, Truth is often shrouded in perception and from what I can remember from my youth I was so ignorant of things I know today it wasn't funny. Your essay was beautifully written, the facts you have revealed are. unfotunately, true. not only in that, other spheres as well. While we where in Scotland, we visited the battle site of Culloden, where the nasty British put Scotland to the sword. But as we journeyed around Scotland, we discovered the very worst atrocities inflicted on Scots, was by fellow Scots. the story goes on....I enjoyed your write very much!. blessings Roy
