Such an interesting story told in Ballad form.
Lots of detail and vivid images give the reader
a sense of the event, as you bring it to life.
strong rhyme and meter add to the strength
of the poem., Good luck in the contest.

Beautifully written with love as the connection is with your wife. It's hard to believe that the fight about a few getting rich on the backs of the workers never ends. He lives on in you poem

A good form of poetry reminding history and about Joseph Mirth its the good representation and how they lead life simple toiling they and night for the fat purse of lords.

Such incident is repeated everywhere in the world one can see microspically that the poet sees and transforms into words and how he shows common are against with revolution and how they are massacred with iron hands.Indeed painful

Good try.One must come up with such poetry.

Wow. Crazy stuff. Did you find this out recently? Incredible. Great story. I found myself very interested in finding out how it would play out. Happy for the somewhat happy ending here -- relatively speaking.

    Thank you.

We have known part of the story for some time but have only recently discovered more of the details.

I enjoyed this poem very much. You brought the history alive and made it very readable. One consideration - I believe in that day, the 'unions' were referred to as 'guilds' - you might want to check me on this and correct if so. It is minor and does not change the essence. Very well done, and I like the picture as well. Good flow and great rhythm.

Thanks - interesting point about unions. I don't think they were unions as we know them today, but something called a Union Society did exist and the members seem to have been leading figures in this revolt.

I enjoyed your poem. I like the starkness of the image and the plain black text. I like historical things and learning of incidents that are new to me. Your poem told a good story in an easy way to follow it and learn about this topic. I see nothing to change. Good job and good luck in the contest. Thanks for sharing.

Well... I am fascinated! This is a most interesting account of a portion of history completely unknown to me. Thank you so much for bringing it to our attention in this elegantly crafted historic ballad. I can't wait to read the rest of the story, and I'm SO glad you entered the contest. :p

    Thanks, Adonna.

As I suspected, my story was no match for your Emily Dickenson masterpiece!

Not sure when I ill get around to finishing Joseph's story...

This was a super poem, I love history in poetry and the story line was great. I had not heard of this occurrence. Perhaps, it is because I am a Liverpudlian and not a Yorkshire man like you! Great rhyming, historical content, and smooth flow. Most enjoyable and good luck in the contest. Faye

    Thanks, Faye.

As you can see now, I am not a Yorkshireman either! The conclusion of the tale will tell how many of Joseph's descendants prospered in Australia and New Zealand...

You did a good job of fooling me. Yorkshiremen are a special breed apart as James Herriot (a Scot) discovered when he moved to Yorkshire in the thirties; he never went back to Scotland, he loved the people and the countryside so much. I can vouch that it is so, also. Good job with the poem. Faye
