Blimey, Dean, this is a very touching story. When I combine your own story with the poem's narrative, I have to agree that God does work in mysterious ways. The whole notion of a kid loading up his questions in a bottle for God is precious, but actually getting an answer via a preacher and return bottle, is miraculous. Great verse work and emotional impact in this.

It's all true too, Mark, except for the embellishments of which I explained in the author's notes. Of all the people who could have found that bottle, and all of the things which could have befallen it, what are the odds of a preacher finding and reading it? Probably better than a million to one, but it happened.

I'm very grateful for your thoughtful comments, my friend. And yes, He truly does. :)

Dean your poem is perfect in rhyme and rhythm. I believe it is 14 beats to a line and the rhyme is great. Written from the point of view of a child, it is imaginative, inquisitive, and above all, nostalgic. You sent the bottle with some questions down the creek and a kindly soul picked it up the bottle and answered your questions, sent it back down the creek and you found the bottle same spot. It is a great poem. I read the poem with interest from beginning to end. Congratulations. Dom

Thanks so much, Dom. I really appreciate your exceptional rating and wonderful comments.

I've asked myself many times since that day, that out of all the people who could have found that bottle, and all of the things which could have happened to it, what are the odds of a preacher finding and reading it? Probably better than a million to one, but it happened.

Hey, Dean...

What a lovely, touching story. It's just awesome how it was found and returned. Sometimes a small world gets even smaller.

Did you meet the preacher personally, or just your mom? It was just so cool what he did.

Cheers & Blessings

Thanks, Jax. I met him many years later after my mom told me what actually happened. We became very good friends, all the way up until his death in 1999. He was a wonderful and caring human being.

    Thanks again.

Dean this is so honest, spiritual and expressive.
It flows with such ease it seems as though it wrote itself.
It is lovely to read of how a simple lesson learnt in childhood can be carried for life.
Indeed God does work in mysterious ways.

Thanks so much, Shirley, I really appreciate your wonderful review. Except for the embellishments I mentioned in the notes, it's all true, and I still have that note to this very day. It's been a great source of comfort to me, and others, over the years.

    Thanks so much, again. :)

This poem is one that every child and also adult ought to read for in it there is the simple and eternal massage that with prayer the Lord will answer. Prayer is an act of supreme faith in our Maker. Well done, Dean.

As the kids say: "Cool!"
I Bro. Dean,
I'll bet you were so xcte at receiving a return note, you about dropped the bottle trying to retrieve the return note.

That was really gracious that the Pastor would take time
out of his busy schedule drive to your house to give you the answer.

Well, y'all have a great week,
Keep leaving Gospel tracks behind you,
Your Friend, Jerry
