Thanks for the stars and nice review. Here is a little bit about the fair from yorkfair.org.

The traditions of fairs in the New World began with the York Fair, America?s first fair, held in the historic old Town of York in 1765, eleven years before the nation was founded. A charter to hold that fair was granted to the people of York by Thomas Penn, son of William Penn in recognition of ?the flourishing state to which the town hath arrived through their industry.? Those early gatherings were reported to have been ?the liveliest days of the whole year.?

At that time, the York Fair existed as a two-day agricultural market on the town commons, now known as Penn Park. Records don?t tell us too much about the York Fair during the American Revolution or the War of 1812, but we know the troops passing through York camped in the commons, so they would have shared the grounds with the Fair.

Interesting historical information.

I felt the poem's flow was a little awkward due to the line breaks not coinciding with the natural pauses in the 'sentence.

Good luck.

Steve

Thanks for the stars and the review. Thanks for your review, I will look at it and read up on haikus and make an adjustment if needed. "For the new world, fair
Events started on the town
Commons in York town"
this is a fine piece, i am just thinking that how could you avoid repetition for the word "town". and i can't get it done.. how about
"new world fair events
started on the town commons
in the york county"
however, thank you for sharing!
good luck in the contest!

Thanks for the review and stars, I see the mistake and I will correct it. If I might add, I was trying put down what I read and I forgot you shouldn't repeat.

But for your author notes, I would be wondering why York town has been included in the poem. What a lovely tradition of celebrating fairs for the last 250 years! A nice entry for the Celebrating County Fairs writing prompt contest. Best of luck for the contest

Thanks for the stars and review. It was included in the author's note because it was once called a town and now we call it a city.

Hi,

What's not to like about a fair?? Nothing!

Used to love to go as a kid and try to win those canes with the ring toss.

You can see people at the fair you don't see the rest of the year.

Good poem. The best of luck in the contest

Cheers & Blessings
