Hi snodlander, I was thinking about getting a few chickens myself, endless supply of eggs etc, but after reading your beautifully written story I think I'll give it a miss, Great writing my friend!

this is an excellent write, snodlander, you did an excellent job writing this story about the chicken business that took place and the beheading of that poor chicken. I enjoyed reading it.

You described Miguel's nonchalant attitude so well, I could see him shrug. You know how I love your travelogues, snod. I feel you've been woefully neglectful. Glad you got to vacation in Portugal again.
Guess the hens can't be bothered unless there's a cockerel around. I can dig it. LOL!
But the five Euro cage just didn't cut it. A bargain is not always a bargain. That'll teach him to sing in the middle of the night. I met a few roosters in Portugal who would also have benefitted from a middle of the night visit. Lots of blind roosters there.
Great fun, snod. Regards to Aunt Pat.

Interesting story. Is it really tradition that you have to take the chicken? No spag detected, good dialogue. I enjoyed the read. Nice work.

LOL no, I made that one up, though there seems to be a tradition about everything else. Glad you liked it

Very cute story. I wondered what they were going to do to help a blind chicken.
This story was well done. It had the feel of a parable. Your characters were well written and relatable. I think after a while of not sleeping, I would've 'helped' that rooster in the same way.
Excellent job.

I think a lot of us think about having chickens so we have eggs 'on tap' all the time but after reading your story it seems like too much hassle lol.

I am sure I would have been mad being woken up so many times in the night, too. Poor bird. Enjoyable story, written with good touch of humour and well narrated. Faye

Thanks for the pleasure of your fun and entertaining story. I live in the city, and right across the street from me a family has a pent up bunch of chickens and one cock who crows around the clock. He is blind. Seriously. Great job. :-)

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. One of my neighbours has chickens but thankfully no cock. My Aunt gave up on the chickens after the incident.

Well, I sure hope she went back and "took" another cockerel! LOL I would have! This was a great story. I found a few little nits, but I was too engrossed to pick them out. I can go back for them if you like. :p :)
There was one that I had to list, though:
"For the first time in for ever" (Change "for ever" to "forever")
Great story - thanks for sharing!
