Ingrid, I read this when you first posted but time restraints kept me from reviewing.

You, my friend, have an absolute and incredible sense of humanity and realism. Your craftsmanship as a wordsmith can only be admired for there are few, imho, whom can match not only your talent but your intellect and passion.

Your phrase,' the eternal scar of humanity' cannot be phrased any more eloquently in this shining work. The culmination of this work, one can only say, Amen.

well done.. Jimi

this is an excellent write, spiritual echo, you wrote an excellent essay about the way we have to acknowledge that we have enemies that want to rule the world and rid it of infidels. we also have people that want a euphoric society and use death to bring it about.

Old comrade, have you stayed with Stan? His last chapter of his current boo irritated me beyond belief. Your thoughts?

There has been war or ethnic cleansing every day since I was born eighty years ago. Christians are responsible for many of the wars directly or by supporting the politicians who declare them. Muslims started a century later but are busy catching up.

Have you wondered why they are currently beheading their helpless enemies? Read toe following quotes from the Qur'an and note in particular # 8

1) Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them. Qur'an 2:19

2) Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood. Qur'an 9:123

3) Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable. Qur'an 3:85

4) The Jews and Christians are perverts; fight them." Qur'an 9:30

5) Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam. Qur'an 5:33

6) The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque. Qur'an 9:28

7) Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies. Qur'an 22:19

8) Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them. Qur'an 47:4

9) The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them. Qur'an 8:65

10) Muslims must not take the infidels as friends. Qur'an 3:28

11) Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur'an. Qur'an 8:12

12) Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels. Qur'an 8:60

13) Be terrified that Allah will replace you and put others in your place and inflict you with a painful doom. Qur'an 9:38 and 39

This is why other Muslims in the world sit back and say nothing and why the heinous acts of Muslims word-wide continues undiminished and in fact increases.

I am definitely impressed with the lesson. Given that I accept my sloth and the contamination of my breath, before I die, given that you are a learned man, would you be so kind to give me 13 reasons why a noble soul would embrace Islam?
reply by Pyrrho on 15-Sep-2014
I do not understand why you ask me for reasons to embrace Islam. I cannot think of one reason to embrace any religion. I can think of the overwhelming reason I believe 99% of the religious folks in the world claim to be believers: The cannot imagine non-existence after worldly death: all evidence to the contrary. So if one con-man or another promise them eternal life they eat it up like excellent Chili.

So, if you ask me I like to think that chocolate and coffee and a nice talk can solve anything. However, you have those people who don't like to talk. I have also wondered what went through the terrorists heads that day. What made them think to do that. I also ask the same question about people who go and shoot up school. Innocent children. Really? On a positive note I know someone who teaches fifth grade and when she went to school this year to teach on 9/11 she knew that none of the children in her class were born then but she said that all the kids knew the importance of the day. It was a glimmer of hope I think just because they are so young and weren't even here for when it happened. It's just a sad day and always will be.

This is an excellent piece of writing. It is written intelligently and with purpose. I like your phrases and sentences like: Memorial ceremonies will mark the time, date, and in New York City, each victim's name will be spoken aloud--lest we forget." You have a strong opening and the piece is fluid and thought provoking. "But then I stopped to consider the damage and the eternal scar on humanity that a handful of men rained upon the world that fateful September morning, so long ago." This is an excellent essay, I will read it in its entirety again. Well done!

I hope that by God's and Allah's grace, a handful of warriors, a united confederation of countries, will return us to a peace where we might once again trust our fellow man. That will never happen, because thousands of years and countless governments prove man can't do it.

No, it won't. all this lip service to peace is foolish. Man will be at war with something...always.

I agree with all of what you have written, I too am a spiritual person without the dogma of any particular God. Only the other day a demonstration in the Uk the Muslims took to the street because the wife of a bomber was being questioned by the police, the banners read English police are going to hell. they were all covered up in black clothing, and also told the girl who tried to interview them the she was dammed for hell too. Such hatred is so unbelievable.

I just cannot see peace with that attitude.

A very thought provoking essay. Well thought out and written. Can we blindly point our finger at one group of people? No. Should we exercise caution as you suggest? Absolutely. In the end can we the people do anything to prevent such tragedies? I don't know.
I once read a story on this site where a character was given one wish. They wished for world peace. Immediately, people started getting sick and dying. This character never mentioned the wish even up to the point when she died.
I would like to hope that eliminating all the people in the world is not the only way to world peace. But sometimes it seems that way.
Great essay.

Ingrid,
This is an excellent essay populated with keen observations and a surging feeling of shock and awe.

It's human nature to pay scant attention to issues and situations that don't have a direct effect on the quality of one's life. (This is exactly what makes us so vulnerable.)

I had a very difficult evolution as I began to understand that hatred was bubbling, boiling globally and was to contaminate my life. Osama was only the visible fin above the water. Below the surface, the shark began to twitch, gnash and sharpen his teeth.

Your last two sentences go straight to the core.

There are some tough day ahead as the attacks will now be in Syria as well. There was a time when I believed that certain things would never happen, now I'm not so sure there won't be a full scale attack on N. America.

Thanks you for the 6* review and pray that my fears are unfounded.

I have been glued to CNN. Very depressing and frightening. I find myself wondering how I would have been affected with old time simple reporting, as opposed to all of he commentary. Curious.

Today the pope spoke about the wars being waged and called the state of affairs as a ;fragmented WW111.' It sure feels that way.

This group is as evil as they come. I can't help but wonder what goes through the minds of young kids watching all of this. The world isn't leaving them a very promising future.
