I love the dialogue of the opponents
vivid descriptive detail
great high-impact verb choices add to the intensity of the drama

Thanks, Brooke. Riki Tiki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling was a favorite story of mine growing up. I really appreciate your kind comments and generous review. :)

I enjoyed this poem, my friend. I was associating the two animals with people I know and I remembered those who are fond of bullying underdogs. I hope they will meet some mongoose out there and get what they deserve. (hahaha I'm so bad)...
God bless... c", Mae

I learned something new. Never would have thought that a mongoose could defeat a cobra
Solid rhymed couplets in your quatrains
Good use of alliteration and enjambment.
loved the poem as usual

Really excellent, natural-sounding rhymes and meter, Dean. You tell a great tale of the bravery of the mongoose. I love watching certain cable channels myself, so I had to smile at your AN's. Totally enjoyable, my friend.

Thanks, Bev, I really appreciate that. So sorry about the late reply, things have been rather crazy for me lately! :0

Hey, I totally understand, Dean. You're very welcome, as always. :) Bev

Oh, congrats on another Book of the Month. How many times is that now, fifty, LOL? :D

You made me laugh out loud, Dean. What a nut! No, it's four. And I darned lucky I got those (hehehe). Thanks so much, my friend. :)

Aw, you're far too modest, Bev. It was definitely talent. The majority of voters may have those they hate, like myself, and their favorites, but they are wise enough to see and recognize true talent when they see, it.

Dean, what a gentleman you are. Thanks for this... coming from such a talent as yourself, it means a lot to me. Have a great weekend.

You do the same, Bev. :]

enlightening and a bit hard to take in for squeamish folk like me. I know nature can appear to be cruel and you've done an excellent job (in poetic form none the less) of how it is no more, actually, then a part of the cycle of life. Loren

Yes, I watch too much Animal Planet too. Better 'n the news.
Lovely, well crafted an illustrated story. I think this would make a lovely children's book.

Thanks so much, granny, and you're absolutely right, it is a thousand times better and more inspirational than our local nightly news. It's rarely ever good news.
I truly appreciate your kind comments and review. :)

So you are a nature channel junkie too. And a devotee of Kipling ( Riki Tiki Tavi who really taught Ali all of his moved). Part Aesop and all your own. Before pride goeth the fall, Ms. Cobra. Excellent tale of the animal kingdom. Just one typo- " have storied often told" - stories.

Not too long ago my husband was telling me about the habu snakes in Japan and how the mongoose preyed on them. Your poem is an interesting lesson. I like your illustrations too. Always do enjoy your work.
