Hi GW,
You know, as I analyzed this photo, with the rain and mud, the overturned wagon what looks to be a dead horse near the grieving man, I couldn't help but be mournful.
And yet, we have learned nothing from war, but more war. Outstanding, impact laden work on this one.

Very powerful poem, Deepwater about war and loss. The decay and the smell and the burials are added to by your notes. I am hoping to attend a memorial around November 11 to honour the brave and the fallen. A century on from the start of WW1 - hard to believe. Hatter

You paint a bleak picture of the desolation that was trench warfare in WWI. Bodies left laying around because it was too dangerous to venture out of the trenches to retrieve them. Watching thousands of very young men, children really, dying for nothing.

The evil of wars, they consume the lives of our beautiful young hopes for the future like a hungry child eating a bpwl of his favorite cereal. What lesson is learned from all this. None apparently, for again and again the same warring factions find reason to engage in a similar struggle for the same dumb reasons as before, greed, hatred, anger and just overall stupidity.

I think what world war 1 highlights for me is that how much technology for destruction outstripped medical technology...if a ww1 soldier was maimed there was no plastic surgery.........mustard gas...etc...trenches,,,
