Dear Dean - This almost devours the breath as I read it. You have a sense of expanding the vision of poetry, whether a story poem or not, you definitely keep me reading, pondering and exploring within your lines.

I may not always "get" what you are penning until I sit back and let it sink in. It is in those moments that I see you as a word magician - the illusions you pen, with reality or fiction share that deeper "dream/nightmare" unfolding within us.

I thought this was such a great way of really diving into that realm of life, and death - whatever is left between those veils....I've walked between those veils, and always there is this sense of "more"....and somehow you manage to grab that well with this work too.

So different the way you share you love of words and screams, it scares the heck out of me at times I must admit. This is a deeper beauty of darkness, I hope many realize that as they read it.

Thanks for sharing.
Maureen

Dean, I'm so glad I'm reading this early enough, lol. Last time I had nightmares by reading not long before bed. This write was quite amazing, actually close to perfect and very much Poe. In the beginning, I wondered about the crow, so glad you explained. Great pictures, great dialogue, and best poem so far!!! Author Notes really helped with this. . .Sharon

When I first read this I thought of Edgar Allen Poe, before I read the author's note.

Your poem is so professionally put together.
I enjoyed reading it.

Good luck with your poem, I hope it makes it big.

A great poem in the gothic tradition.Poe's influence is evident and acknowledged by the poet, so it stands alone in its own right. It flows very well and some of its rhymes and near rhymes like -resisting and glistening- are brilliant, as are the graphics.

Thank you very much for writing. The imagery blew my mind, the period language not a syllable out of place, the gradual change from terror to acceptance and the excellent artwork all made for a riveting read. I truly look forward to your next piece

We stay on a small holding and have a lot of crows around, sometimes as much as twenty in a flock. This is another well crafted and well written poem.

Thank you, Charlie, and I appreciate the Poe reference. I dream of one day being the caliber of poet he was...if I can live that long.:)

I was mesmerized by this. Haunting language that flows across a page that appears to look like aged parchment, which to me, adds a mystic flavor to the narrative. The Art work has a real gravitational pull.

The first poem I ever read as a child was Poe's "The Raven"--so, when I saw the extraordinary picture you selected, I had to read your ponder. Oh, my goodness, I just saw the lower bird move! I relished your format and your internal plus end rhymes in these rhythmic lines. The final phrase is just right! Thank you for the new vocabulary word as well and letting us know the poem based on just a dream. I only regret not having a six to bestow on this tour de force--I owe you one. Well done- Joan
