I know it is a heartless statement but I look at drugs as a Darwinian filter to clean up our gene pool. You poem speaks of tragedy and that is what addiction is all about ... especially those who love the damned addict.

    In part, I completely agree with you, Pyrrho. In some larger cities, our government supplies these addicts with clean kits, needles deemed sanitary and bought with taxpayers money.

This is a very poignant poem, the ending is actually a real surprise and you lead down to it extremely well. The rhyming is unforced and works really well.

    I sincerely appreciate the encouraging review, Misinformed Poet (fantastic user name by the way!). After hearing of Robin Williams death last night, I knew full well what my topic in this contest would be. The ghosts of addiction that haunt so many.
