Well structured lines.

The wording captures the struggle and the confusion.
As I read, I thought to myself, 'Am I witnessing a battle scene from the Civil War, or is this a sampling of all wars?

Nicely done.

Thirsty is the ground for men's blood.
"Kids," so appropriate because so many are so young. Truly, however they are among the bravest of men. Laying their lives down for others.
Back to kids as they call out for their mothers.
Yes, as your author's notes state, "Lest we forget."

being ex-military and coming from a military family I have to say you did this justice. I often think of those who have died. My son is actually named for such a solider, a very good friend ours who was killed in Iraq. We loved and miss him.

A very thought provoking and moving poem about war and death. Very visual and descriptive. Fields of poppies stained with blood... Anyone going to war knows they may not come back, knows their brothers may fall and knows the loss and heartbreak it will bring for families. In England we wear poppies on Remembrance Sunday to remind us of the blood that was shed. Loved the poem. Genya

A poignant poem of war and death,
where fields of poppies stained
with blood of those who left much
too soon.
Words of sorrow that fall gently
down the screen like tears, and
never dry.
Well done

The well paired picture tells the story. The thoughts of soldiers going to war. It's like a dream hey have no guarantee that they will come back and so every days as it is t he last.
How time will tell of the kids that fell, within this hallowed place
We fell and died upon this field in sight of God and grace.
these last two lines are thought provoking.

A very powerful message in this write. Yes, we live in the times of hell - horrible things are happening around us; we lose friends and family members; but as you say, more people die every day around the world in the battlefields. Loved your field of poppies. Great metaphor of poppy for piece as compared to the horrors that happen on those fields.

You have spoken the universal language of soldiering. Except for the poppies, this could be the lament of soldiers fighting and dying throughout history, throughout the world. But the poppy fields focus the imagery on the Afghanistan landscape, and as an American - on my own country's troops battles there. Heartbreaking.

Nicely done.

I admired your evocative poem and tribute to the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for their country. Your internal and end rhymes are quite effective, plus your use of the first person adds to the immediacy of your message. Well done- Joan
