You have captured every child's thoughts on the types of food we give our children, all very healthy, but what child wants healthy when there is ice cream sandwiches?? I don't know why, but the photo hasn't come up this time. I can imagine his face though, probably very similar to my grandson Eric's face when he doesn't like something Sue has served up. :) A really lovely poem Brooke. :) Sandra

I've just had another look, yes, he is there eating that mouth-watering ice cream sandwich. Got to agree with him, it looks far nicer than the healthier foods. LOL :)

I love that he is actually licking his fingers LOL I guess he figures there's no way his mother is going to give him a second one, so he'd better get every taste of goodness this one has to offer LOL

Ummmm, I do that! LOL, don't want to waste any! He is a fast learner! :)

Yep, you can forgive a lot for an ice-cream sandwich!

Great rhyming pair clueless/chewless

This has got your usual rollicking meter to go with the clever rhymes and bounces along merrily to that lovely ending.

What a cute sucker! I bet Miranda had a giggle at this one? Surely spaghetti is a favourite? Great for finger-painting. I enjoyed your quatrains - well done Mrs Cone.

Miranda gets a giggle from him dozens of times a day except at meal times. Nope, won't eat spaghetti. He is seriously seriously picky, as in the pickiest eater on the planet. She's even taken him to her health plan's nutritionist for advice, and nobody offers any that works. All the old tricks like smothering a food he won't eat in ketchup or tomato sauce or hiding it inside some other food, etc, comes up empty. And you can't force it down their throats, but he's super healthy, so everyone is just waiting form him to change his mind. LOL :-) Brooke

    Yep, he will change as he grows; having trouble with Toby. Vet says he needs to lose 3kg - put him on a weight reducing Hills dry dog food - Toby says "stick it up your jumper." We have paid $80 for special food - I'm fed up, I think I will go back to cutting his food back and giving him some vitamin supplements - he is also eight. :-={

Adorable and entertaining. The picture is precious, too. Absolutely LOVE the rhyming of clueless and "chewless" in the first stanza:

I love my mom, I really do,
but she can be so clueless.
When liverwurst is what she serves,
my mouth declares it's chewless.

Hee hee. Made me chuckle.

This is humorous too--and nice alliteration of M:

She thinks a glob of mayonnaise
and mustard's all it takes
to mask the most unfortunate
of suppertime mistakes.

Nice alliteration of C:

I normally don't mind some cheese --
I wouldn't even cower,
but she insists on pouring it
all over cauliflower.

CUTE:

She tries to dress her tuna up
in motherly devotion,
though I just wish her tuna fish
would jump back in the ocean.

(nice rhyme and alliteration of D).

Sweet closing: (and nice alliteration of S):

But I forgive each time she's made
my churning stomach scream
when Mom serves up her specialty --
a sandwich of ice cream.

As usual, good flow, rhyming and phonetics.

Warmly, rd

Very very cute! Well worded With clear imagery!
Thank you for sharing such a sweet little rhyme.
What kid or adult does not like ice cream sandwiches.
I enjoyed this one very much. Mind if I share with my son for my grandson?
Have a blessed night!

This is a LOL piece, Brooke. I think that every mother can relate to her child's dislike for the good stuff over the sweet stuff. Beautifully rhymed and very entertaining.

Ah, yes! I remember those days. Children have a different idea of what to eat, which isn't based on any good health habits. Love how each verse goes into the mistakes you make serving Sawyer. Great last line: "a sandwich of ice cream." Yum! Les

I'am so sorry,Sawyer that you have to go through these gastronomical disasters.pouring cheese over cauliflower!only mothers can do it.Please understand she does it because her baby son should grow up to be a strong man.And she does give you ice cream sandwich, doesn't she. Any way lots of hugs to you and your lovely mother.

This is so cute and great flowing rhyming lines to have fun with. I lived on Kraft dinner, peanut butter and lipton chicken noodle soup when I was a kid. I hated my moms cooking then. I thought it was the food. It was when I was 20 yrs and living commonlaw with a chef, lucky me, that I learnt to cook. I love everything I hated then . My mom overcooked everything. She doesn't now though, we got through to her. lol

lulube ice cream my favorite

Well I can see why on the liver. lol He just hasn't had his taste buds woken up for his taste, that he doesn't know about yet. I had no trouble at all feeding Tamara everything, including fish at least 2 times a week. Never had fish at home.\

LOL. . .
Ah, the fickle culinary intolerances of children!
(and they faces they make to express it!!!)
Though yucky disgust may arise now and then
good ol' cake or ice cream can assuage it :-)

Very cute :-)
