Hi Brooke,
Sounds like Sawyer is going through the food fad age when today's favourite food is tomorrow's 'yuck - I HATE that ...'

Thanks so much, Patrick - Sawyer is much more predictable than that - he just hates most food all the time LOL :-) Brooke

Except ice-cream of course ...

Yes, he loves ice cream in any flavor or form and chocolate in any form. Luckily, he likes a few things that are good for him, like a variety of fruits and cheeses and good old peanut butter and jelly. As for any veggies or meats, those have not made their way to the list yet.

Hello Brooke,
This one brought out a chuckle! Growing up, I was one of those kids that would eat anything my mom put in front of me, except liver and onions, and navy bean soup, (sadly, my dad's favorite!) My brother was the picky eater, especially peas. When my mother would serve the "green terror", I would wait until my parents left the room, (my brother would not be excused from the table until his peas were gone), and then I would offer to eat them for my brother, if he would kindly give me his chocolate Easter Bunny he was saving in the freezer, lol. He didn't really like chocolate, but would save his bunny to eat in front of me, months after Easter had come and gone. He was very calculating and far sighted in his brotherly torment, lol.
I can appreciate Sawyers dilemma, but it sounds like Miranda makes her liverwurst sandwiches just the way I like 'em!
Beautiful work in this well rhymed and metered piece. It was a pleasure to read... worth a six if I had one. Best wishes, Bill

Thanks so much, Bill :-) love your memory. Miranda doesn't really serve him those foods. It's true he is a very picky eater, but the rest I made up :-) Brooke

Haha, that was great, Brooke. Your menu sounded very familiar, however. Maybe it's because my family hails from the east. I was born in Missouri long ago, in a town far, far away! Hey, have a great weekend, Bill

Nothing is as tasty as ice cream, especially when the weather is hot. I agree, of everything on this food list, the ice cream sandwich trumps them all.
This is a delightful romp through dreadful lunch time choices that most children would dread.
Love the imagery created in "a glob of mayonnaise and mustard's all it takes" and in "though I just wish her tuna fish would jump back in the ocean"
Excellent alliteration in "stomach scream"

At least Sawyer gets a reward for eating some of that stuff. ...Though liverwurst doesn't sound too, appetizing, my mom used to buy head cheese.... Buttery cauliflower is pretty good...All, in all making up quite a fun, interesting read, with a lot foods, many a kid would shy away from, except for ice-cream.

This is very funny and gives a true picture of how children see things. Grown ups feel they are smart and underestimate the intelligence of children.
Sometimes I would say "Eat it up for me I cooked it with lots of love."
One day my daughter said "Please don't put any love in it I really do not like it."

Sorry was written very weel. It should be, These poems of Sawyer are always so much fun and the pictures go perfectly with the poem. I know that they are your thoughts and they are written so well, but I can imagine Sawyer saying these pithy little poems. Ah, much better. The mind flys so much faster than the hands.

What a cute ABCB penm, Briike! Your rhymes are always spot on, and every stanza has a clever ending that gave me a smile.

Oh Sawyer, baby, I get you - I love ice cream sandwiches too! (LOL)
How adorable, madam, and as usual, as perfect as poetry (and photography!) get. :)

Teasing all the taste buds are we? Gees from tuna to cauliflower and then ice cream. Any little tummy will object to all this variation of tastes. I love that he eventually gets his ice cream sandwich. I hope the sandwich part is made of wafer. Yummy. Great poem, Brooke. I enjoyed. luv jada

yep, the sandwich part of ice cream sandwiches is made of two chocolate wafers :-) Here they are as common as popsicles :-) Thanks so much, Jada :-) Brooke

Yes, I suppose a sandwich made of ice cream is always welcome. More so than most lunch meat sandwiches I imagine. Children only want to eat what they like, of course, not what they should.
