Hello adewpearl, Your poem made me smile, especially ...

But I forgive each time she's made
my churning stomach scream
when Mom serves up her specialty --
a sandwich of ice cream.

(It is hard to like tuna and liverwurst when there is an ice cream sandwich sitting in the freezer.)

I also liked:

She thinks a glob of mayonnaise
and mustard's all it takes
to mask the most unfortunate
of suppertime mistakes.

(In our house, it was ketchup that did the masquerading.)

A fun poem that made me smile and brought back a lot of memories. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

LateBloomer, thanks so much for your fun response to this poem :-) Yeah, when I was a kid I drowned lots of offensive food in ketchup, but Sawyer doesn't even like ketchup! LOL :-) Brooke

Not liking ketchup is a wonderful thing. Big-teeth smile. LateBloomer

i used to serve waffles and inc cream on hot summers days for dinner, my kids remember that as both fondly and as a pour nutritional choice now that they are grown. beautiful and enjoyable poem as always thank you for sharing

plum, thank you so much :-) You remind me of my dad, who would take me out to Howard Johnsons every Friday night to have a banana split for dinner :-) Brooke

Cute and fun! The humour in this is really enjoyable. Great rhyme and rhythm. A fun story to read and savour. Kids would love to hear this little poem being read over and over again.

This is adorable, Brooke, so real and truly spoken by a child. Great rhyming and flow, fantastic wit and whimsy throughout. An adorable picture of our little boy enjoying his ice-cream sandwich.

She tries to dress her tuna up
in motherly devotion,
though I just wish her tuna fish
would jump back in the ocean.

The amimal lover in me was appeased by this! (lol).

A great composition which put a smile on my face.

I love it your words were very childless as you meant them to be.
As a child I felt the same way.
this was a very delightful poem to read.
Thank you for sharing.

I have to agree with Sawyer on the liverwurst:) An ice cream sandwich will put it to shame. I did a kids poem here called "Grandma Tried to Feed Me Liver". I think you'd enjoy it:) Great job--Ted

Hi. Okay, this made me smile...the line about chees, yup, I still agree.
But, the ice cream at the end, that's the kicker.
These are all gonna be in a book..right!?

Good job, Brooke, with your rhyming quatrains. The ABCB rhyme scheme and alliterations sprinkle throughout make it flow smoothly down the page. We all can relate to his message about loving our mom's, in spite of what they tried to feed us growing up. 8-)

If only more grandmothers were like you. A delightful read the whole way through, as fun and sweet as one of those finger-licking good ice cream sandwiches!
I remember my stubborn appetite as a little girl well, and thinking of it now, with the help of your words, makes me laugh. Here's to those children who appreciate what's delicious! Cheers, Brooke, to your fabulous writing.
