Writing reviews on your work is like those days when the raw material is right and the machine runs smoothly-it's hard to say a lot about it. Excellent.

I love how you get in a child's mind and are so on target. The second stanza is what a mother would do. My daughter-in-law would go of her way to make a dinner look yummy.
Eventually, she tired. "Eat what's on your plate or go hungry!"

What a fun poem, Brooke! I enjoyed your rhymes, enjambment, and alliteration, but my favorite is the story you tell. Yeah for Mom who gets forgiven for her culinary skills with an ice cream sandwich. How wonderful!

Karyn : )

haha. lol. this is a finger-licking good piece of poetic art! children can be picky eaters, but on the other hand so am i:) children also get familiar to different textures as sartre pointed out. for example honey is a favorite, because the child doesn't know is it some kind of extension to the body or what.
anyhoo, thank you for sharing!

Sawyer is caught being a normal young boy. A very descriptive picture of a youngster learning what he likes and does not like. An excellent word picture along with a photograph that show the same story. Thanks for sharing. Bob

Yum. Nothing like an ice cream sandwich right from Carvel. Umm, ummmmm, good. In like liverwurst also but not with ice cream.
Nicely done Brooke with the wonderful inspiration, Sawyer.

Really enjoyed reading this one. That all familiar battle of wits at meal time. Fortunately, children's taste does improve with age. Great rhyming once again and very entertaining. Pete

An ice cream sandwich? Really? Now there's an experience I have never had! This is a terrific poem, very lovely to read. Most kids don't like something the mother makes, and I loved your variety of offerings, Brooke, Giddy

Thanks so much, Giddy - I had no idea ice cream sandwiches were not universally eaten and beloved - they're as common here as popsicles :-) Brooke
