Your story is a great one, well done!
There are many abused and neglected animals here in our county in Illinois USA. At a fair I talked to a lady who gave me magazine with hundreds of horse photos...such ignorant cruelty some people do!

You may want to see a poem in my portfolio I wrote about an old horse seen in a lot, so dejected and facing a corner. Wife and I called him 'Lonesome George' and the words came forth. Also wrote a funny called
'Horse Boarding.'
George poem was printed in a recent issue of magazine mentioned.

What an inspiring story and very well written. Easy to follow, and great use of dialogue to help move things along. I love how you helped to put that crook behind bars where he belonged, and were able to keep Lady for so long and then she was able to live out her life in such a peaceful and useful way. Animals bring so much to our lives, bless you for your actions in caring for them so profoundly.

all keen riders, and - I added the comma
little-used muscles, lying - I would make that a period
The sun was high in the sky, - add comma
You set the stage well in your opening
good natural-sounding dialogue
man called Mark, who helped him - add the comma
got the better of him, and I ended - add comma
good detail about the dirty dealings
when you can get a horse float," - make that a period - only use a comma after a quoted line if it's followed by a dialogue tag, like he said or she whispered...
a most thoughtful conclusion to your moving story about giving opportunities and a home to horses and a great opportunity to disabled kids. :-) Brooke

My friend, you sure have a way of making my tears of joy flow. This was such a touching story. I loved it. I too love all animals and believe that man should cherish them not abuse them. I hate abuse of ANY KIND.

Always with respect,

I've had my right foot, except for the heel amputated. I will not be on this site for a while. I snuck in today while Marcia is tending her beautiful plants and flowers outside. I will return as soon as I can. I'll miss your wonderful stories, my friend. Best wishes always.

Always with respect,

Elgie

Elgie, I hope you get to read this! I can nurse you through the days when you are down. I have been an amputee since 1982 - left leg. They will make you a prosthesis for your foot. Never give up. When the going gets tough - the tough get going. Love, Kay.
Thank you for reading my story.

Kay, this is so inspiring. I love the way you worked with the police to bring that criminal down. As well, the latter part of the story and your acts of charity and love for animals and humans (who deserve it!) is touching as well. You are quite a woman! Great post and I can see this doing well in the contest. Hugs, Bev

Amen to this:
I believe animals have souls and the good Lord gave us animals to make our life more bearable. It is our duty to care for them and love them as they love us.
And God bless you for keeping Lady. My wife and i have volunteered at theraputic riding stables and those horses are special - they have a keen knowledge of their rider's needs. This is a wonderful story in so many ways and you've told it brilliantly with an equally satisfying and perfect ending. I'm thinking Lady is enjoying the meadow and ocean view. Loren

Hello Loren, Glad you dropped in to read my story. Horses are so intelligent, as are all animals. We have many Riding for the Disabled organisations in Oz - the concept started in England and the Princess Royal is the patron. Blessings, Kay.

This is an essay that will appeal to horse lovers everywhere! And it had everything, from rescuing an abused horse to helping disabled riders and even catching a villain.

Not to mention how brave you had to be agreeing to go along with that sting for the police. I hope the "snake" stays in jail. Anyone who abuses a horse is the lowest of the low.

I am applauding your story. Thank you for rescuing the horse. I'm glad things are working out. Good luck with the contest.

"Surely he's not going to send her out again?" I whispered to my friends.
"Looks like he is," Sandy sighed.
"Oh, no he's not, not if I have anything to do with it!" I was mad as hell and after picking up my crutches, I swung my myself towards the shed where the black-hearted bastard stood sipping on a rum and coke. (each person's dialogue gets a new paragraph, the same throughtout)

I believe animals removed from abusive situations do develop a special bond with their rescuers.

Its obvious through your dialogue and description; that this story was written from the heart. Your emotional portrayal is strong all the way through till the end.

It's good to know the abuser saw some jail time, but in my humble opinion; when it comes to animal abuse, the punishment never fits the crime.

Well written. Thank you for sharing this heart-warming story, and good luck in the contest!

Cian Mateo

Hello Cian, Thanks for reading and yes, I agree, the punishment never fits the crime. One day the animals will come into their own. Cheers, Kay.
