I would have to give you a 6 for this write, for the subject and the dignity you afforded it. Sadly beautiful, not one to pass up at all.

Brought tears...pass the tissues please.

This is a lovely dedication and an obvious choice as the winner of the contest. Will's father is lucky to have a d town and a friend as compassionate as you are. I hope that your support helps him keep his wonderful memories of his brave son alive.

Well done on this deserving win, it's a beautiful and sad poem, so full of respect, and it tells the same story the world over, of young men killed in service, all for war! We are all so grateful to the men and women who defend our country, huge respect to them we owe them so much,
Well done and congratulations
Andrew

Heart-rending and poignant memory - the personalimpact 'Daddy can't we both go fishin' and pain throbs through the poem'all that the man has left/ a folded flag'.Will humanity ever learn 'yet another young man dies' and 'freedoms left undone'. Reality and horror of war.

Congratulations!

Very moving! I read this and couldn't help but take pause once again today, to thank all our Vets who have served this country in the past, as well as those, who serve in the present.

And to those young men and women who will make the choice to serve in the future. Thank you!

And, thank you, Dean--for such a wonderful, heart warming tribute to one of many fallen soldiers.

God's speed, Will. Thank you for your sacrifice!

Cian

Thank you very much, Cian. I truly appreciate your glowing rating and review, and for honoring Will's memory with your well-spoken and kind words. As a former US marine myself, it is hard when one from our special fraternity is killed. But Will's death was doubly hard to take because not only was he a great young man with a promising future, he was also someone whom I considered a friend.

Again, thanks for the wonderful review. I know it would make Will extremely proud.

I think you should receive first in the contest and 100 stars. Very moving and touching poem and story. Every person is valuable to someone and somewhere.
My father was a chaplain for the vets. We received a flag when Raphael died. One never forgets our loved ones.

Oh Dean, such a tragic waste! A young man, barely old enough to serve - how awful for those who survive him - what a terrible blow!

Your poem is masterful, my friend, and I only wish I could give it the six stars it so richly deserves; I wish I'd seen it sooner! You've written such a loving tribute - you should be very proud.

I see congratulations are in order - I would have been astounded if they weren't. Congratulations, Dean. What an honorable thing to do, and you did it exceptionally well.

This is deserving of a six...Sorry, I will have to listen to the video, at a later time...I know I'll cry...With a my army son who barely made it out of Afghanistan, & my young husband who had bullets flying at his head on a ship off of Vietnam, it mourns me so to think of this father's loss...Though grateful mine came home, along with my WWII army veteran dad too, to his young wife, my mom, & my sister, or I wouldn't be here, or either would be my other sister...Many are so young when they volunteer, my husband & father, had to join..it was the draft then..Though, the ones who make it & were in combat are usually changed forever...

Dean... Simply amazing!! So beautifully written and so moving with the military music playing in the background. One of the best, if not THE best entries I've seen so far. Thoroughly enjoyed this even though it was devastatingly sad. Incredible job!!
