It does get worrisome when your friends on this sight our out of sight for a time. I really appreciate when friends post a piece letting me they are going on vacation, etc. so I know not to worry. Good piece. God loves you and so do I.

Very poignant and heartfelt tone in your essay, for your friends. And for Gungalo, who for each of us, felt she was our friend, and she was. So many won't even read my work if it doesn't have much money on it or I'm not known, but that wasn't the case with Gungalo, she read a lot of my work. So sorry for your sadness, as I'm sad too:)

Dear Michael. My heart just hurts for yet another great loss. I didn't know Songbyrd well, but she seemed like a wonderful person. I agree with you. Yes we are friends on this site. If it wasn't for this site I never would have met Barbara, babylonia. She is one of my best friends. We found out we live 20 miles from each other. She takes me to doctors appointments and is like a family member to me. I miss Lovi too. I hope she is okay. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece from your heart, Shirley

Oh Mikey, how sad! I did not know her well, but I had reviewed for her and she for me a couple of times...I'm sure she would love that you've written about her.

You also make a point I've often thought about; how to have our friends here know if something ever happened...

God bless, and know you are so appreciated here too - we ARE real friends, just like pen pals of the old days!

Best wishes (and hugs)
Dawn

It would be hard to be a member of FanStory without establishing viable friendships. It is easy to see you wrote this from the heart. I commend you on your thoughts and offer my condolences over the lost of Songbyrd

Well said! It is like being in a state of limbo when a good friend seems to drop off the face of the earth. You hope that they are all right as the alternative should never be thought as it is like sending a negative wish out into the universe. I know we have the ability to comment and share, but sometimes it is hard to write about illness and such - plus you then have to deal with the influx of messages which you may not be up to. I wonder if the addition of a 'Status' where you simply pick a reason for the absence would help. It would make it easier on the person (or their family) and let others know if somebody is in need of prayer without having to depend on the grapevine. You make many valid points in this essay and I thank you so much for sharing this with me.

Michael, I agree about how real the friendships are that we make here. My daughter knows to notify Diane/Words and Margaret if anything were to happen to me. I would hate to think my friends were worrying and left in the dark, and any of us can be run over by a truck tomorrow, even those who are young and in good health. This is a very thoughtful essay. I'm pretty sure Lovinia was located. Brooke

Since the average age of a Fanstory member is nearly the average age of the American Farmer, and it's impossible to tell if the address is silent because the party has died
or eloped (or got mad)this is a problem. Ideas?

This has been a difficult year for many of us. Alvin, Chey, and now Gungalo (Pam) are gone. I know of others, as you have said, that have just disappeared. I spent the entire day yesterday crying for someone I call a true friend despite never meeting her. My heart is broken and learning of her death made me do something I have been thinking about but keep putting aside. I am preparing a 'Goodbye post', giving it to a friend along with instructions on ow to post it here on FS. I have no plans of leaving or dying anytime in the near future, but to just disappear leaves a big hole in the hearts of so many that, should something happen, I don't want to leave people wondering where I am. This is a lovely tribute to the those of us you now call friends. We ARE friends, aren't we?

Funny that you mention wondering about some of the missing names here at Fanstory. I was looking at my fan list and realized I hadn't heard from about ten of them in over six months. A couple have said their goodbye, and some have passed. I as wondering what happened to the them. It is kind of like being in emotional limbo until you can find something out. Ididn't follow songbird but I just may go back and check out her portfolio. The piece you posted was beautiful. Gretchen
