Thank you for reviving this one, my friend. Been a long time since you were posting anything. I liked this article and can easily understand why you saved it and reposted too. Hope to see you back again soon. Bob

I love how you created this story, intertwining fiction and facts. Love the research you provided. Love how you taught me something that I had not thought through before, and I found the information fascinating.

I love your story; it is a special one and very timely.

What I don't like are advertisers (and, I know, that's their job) who take advantage of certain holidays by enticing consumers to buy, buy, buy, which in turn seems to override the special meaning of the holiday being celebrated.

But, that has nothing to do with your writing. Again, I loved your story!

Father's Day, Mother's Day, and what about Children's Day? We all missed out. We in Australia also celebrate those days - one in Sept. one in May. I don't know where it came from, maybe America. Anyway, I reckon us kids still missed out. Except for Children's Day at our Royal Agricultural Show. Thanks for sharing my friend.

So you see kids, old 'Tricky Dick', er, excuse me. President Nixon did do some good things while he was in office. I do hope that fathers all across this great nation will think kindly of President Nixon on Father's Day this year and each one hereafter. Even those fathers who receive yet another cheap and ugly tie. LOL.

I liked this story for its information and the idea that the son skimmed the article to discover what most don't know. As a story it works well. There are a few SPAG that I'll point out in case you're interested.

First sentence, which is actually two sentences: "(C)an you help me(?) I need to do a report for school on how Father's Day became a holiday(.)"

Second sentence: "(W)ell son, I don't know(,) but I'll find out." I am also questioning the identification of (Dad) at the beginning of the sentence, instead of (The dad).

Third Sentence: I don't think the newspaper needs to be in quotation marks here, as this is not an essay, but dialog. If the word were a different use of a word or one you made up, pointing that out might call for such markings.

Fourth sentences: You've got a COMMA SPLICE joining the first two and next two sentences. (...to read the article(.) (H)e skimmed over it...) THEN "(D)ad, this is great(!) (I)t tells how fathers...

Fifth sentence: COMMA SPLICE ("Thanks(,) son(.) (N)ow you...)

I think these changes will improve the readability of your story. Happy day.

Hi there,

This is an informative and timely piece. It could do with a little bit of an edit, but nothing too much.

"can you help me, I - dialogue should start with a capital letter.

"well son, I don't know - "Well.

"Son," the father said - you don't need the speech tag here as he addresses the son on the dialogue.

"dad, this is great - Dad.

Father's Day is a nice write that takes historical fact and weaves it into a family narrative. I like the little twist you put in where dad does the research concerning his own day. LOL. You have provided all of us insights that we didn't have before. You have schooled us! Thanks a lot for sharing. May God bless you!

What a wonderful and inspirational take on the much celebrated Fathers day. there is only one fly in the ointment in this splendid story, the first paragraph doesn't read too well, if you dropped the 'as he was walking closer to him, it would work a treat and raise your already brilliant story even higher, hope you didn't mind me saying.
