Dean, congratulations for winning this contest. The message is one that for we Americans spans all of the wars we have fought. Superbly written my friend.
We do not really realize the killing effects of war until we read the history book. I watched a series that claimed in WW11, there were 37 million casualties, an unbelievable number stemming from greed and power to rule the world.
Dean, thank you for this as I have printed it and framed it my friend,,,,,,Jim

Thanks, Jim, and what an honor! Being a former veteran myself, I simply wanted to show my gratitude to those who sacrificed everything so that we may have the freedoms we enjoy today.
I'm glad you enjoyed this, Jim. You've made my day!

What an intriguing write.
I find the use of "frigid" as a modifier, especially interesting.
I suppose war does have a cold aura. The coldness of the grave.
Well done.
Hugs, sd

I think that your poem is a wonderful tribute to all soldiers. It fits the category very well, as far as I can tell. It certainly utilizes air in its theme. I am not great with syllables, but it seems correct.

Congrats on the win. Well done.
A soldier's prayer will speak of his fear and apprehension. Alone in the battle field with a faint heart that the killing of the enemies must go on. It is a sickening thought and may God have mercy on his soul as he prayed frigidly.
Excellent write deserves the win.
Cheerio, Ritchie. :))

In three neat lines, an ethereal image takes form. For a painful moment a man ad the elements are one. There is no questioning a man's faith here. Does he believe in God? He'd be a damned fool if he didn't. -Ekim777

Sometimes simple words captures the depth of a moment in time. The photo made this little gem even more powerful. A marine once told me of his experiences in Korea and the retreat from the north during winter. This six word poem, for me, captures a moment and I can still see the cold cracked hands of the marine who sat on his porch with his eyes fixed on a far horizon and told me his story.
Good work.

"Soldier's Prayer" is a respectful, poignant cluster of words that pierced the heart of this reader. The illustration and words reflect each others core meaning. Thank you, Dean Kuch for this touching 3-5-3. You spoke volumes with six well-chosen words.
