Many thanks for your interesting review, Linda. We're currently in the midst of restoring the old farmhouse at Brooklands, using stone still scattered around the quarry. Hence the poem!

This sounds like a magical place, Tony. One where history's years have left their mark, where a young fellow could wander and see all sorts of things in a place normally undisturbed. It is an undisturbed microcosm, perfect for exploring Giddy.

So unique is the place, but more so the observer who at quick glance can see the rocks, the birds, the surrounding ground, never making a sound. Watching all who reside here go about their day.
The visitor is sensitive to the undergrowth and flowers, for birds a haven made, as they fly around, not afraid.
The stranger only seeks the sounds of silence coming, not on the airwaves, but solitude and calm, a force that sets his mental gyroscope towards the positive pole of life.
Pause now, the healing has begun from this secret place, and then take your leave, rejoice.

Consider: Replace 'the' wherever possible with an adjective
DO dwell within its walls, and still the sound
Concealed beneath DENSE virid algal bloom, love 'virid'
Secreted through LONG jagged lines of quartz

You've captured the mood so well as described in your notes.

Regards:

Thank you for your review, Stephen, and for your suggestions. I agree that overuse of 'the' needs to be avoided - it is an easy trap to fall into - and I shall have another look to see if I can comfortably replace any. Equally, though, there is danger, I think, in overloading a poem with adjectives. It's a bit of a balancing act!

This work describes in well-worded detail the kind of scene I like-maybe the wildlife specie differ a little, but folks of a certain spirit will find these charming places everywhere. An excellent tour, smoothly written.

Lovely. Very observant.
As well as vivid imagery, one can almost feel elements of nature structuring this write. It is as if the stones gathered round and decided to assist with this earthly write.
I envy the beauty you have surrounding you. I would give much for just one day.
Great write, my friend.
Best wishes,
RG

This is a wonderfully descriptive work taking the reader to the quarry. The author's notes are also of interest. The work itself is quite well written.

Wonderful memories and vivid descriptions of your special place, Tony.

I particularly like the idea of the past, as ghosts or memories that still haunt the walls - in a very friendly way.

Best wishes, Ted

This is a lovely poem, tfawcus. It is very descriptive. I love the use of alliteration -- rocks wrenched; aloof and alone; hammers haunts. Very nice, indeed. Alana

Tony, you have to explain to me what a echidna is. In a way I found your poem to be very colorful and an excellent free style poem. The imagery is miraculous and so colorful and vibrant as though the reader feels like he's right there.
Describing the green waters of the quarry is also magnificent even though the picture does complement the poem in that respect. The accumulation of birds and animals that respectively are portrayed in this poem is simply miraculous. And as you said in your home a mysterious place so much beauty that enhances their surrounding area. Thank you for sharing and posting this for everyone and may you have a good one always.

Very many thanks for reviewing my work again, Alex. Much appreciated! Brooklands is a place close to my heart. We are currently in the midst of restoring the old farmhouse and appreciating the work of the original craftsmen at first hand. An echidna is an Australian native animal larger than a hedgehog and smaller than a porcupine. They are very shy and rarely seen.
