This work has reached the exceptional level

Your poem brought memories for me, of old ruins in the Adelaide hills, quiet and still apart from the birds nesting in the ruins. The old Newman's Nursery. Your description is almost identical. I love the walk up there. So peaceful with the birds singing and the scents of nature.
I live in Highbury facing the park and I can see parts of the old Quarry.
Small world, isn't it?

Well written,

:) Liandra

Thank you so much for taking the time to review, Liandra. I appreciate your interesting comments and award of six stars. I apologise for my late reply - Internet's been unreliable for several days with local work in progress on the NBN that seems to be upsetting things.

You're so welcome, my friend. I'm sure the internet has a mind of its own!
We had a blackout for over a week and I was going 'nuts.' I'm not a patient person when it comes to, 'failure to communicate.'

An excellent poetic description of that old stone house and the now quiet quarry. I smiled at your sketch of the former craft men's spirits still locked by their work in the stone. The walk to the quarry and it healing essence, embodied in the surroundings, really resonates. Thank you for sharing this secret lovely place.

As I read this poem,I felt as if I were being transported to a state of serenity. It is magical in its content.

Its craftsmen, though long dead and now unknown,
Still dwell within its walls, and still the sound
Of hammers haunts the reaches of the night;
Each stone hand-picked to lock the others tight

The visual imagery here is enhanced by the auditory pounding of the hammers.
Always en joy reading your work.
Sorry I do not have a six left.

I love the art work very much for these words.

What a special place to know about

A place to go and explore.

Living back then must have been very interesting

A much harder to live in my opinion.

I'm really sorry I don't have a six for this. It was classical elegant. My favorite lines:

"A haven for small birds that flit, then still
Their wing, alert for feral cat and fox,
And hawks that hover, high above the rocks."
Great job with this one--Ted

I have often found areas reclaimed by nature to be soothing on a different level than just nature in its purity. I have a spot just like yours, a small quarry and an abandoned farm, one piece of antique farm equipment literally part of a tree that as it grew through it, almost literally absorbed some in it's limbs. You do a great job of transporting us to that place.

Hi Tony,
I completely relat to your write of days gone by and there lasting affects on the land. I live in old, gold mining country in Northern California, but where there used to be thousands of miners in town, it now holds steady at about 300. You can still hear their voices echoing through the night around a camp fire or walking by the river.
Your vivid description of your land built an intriguing picture in my mind, and I thought your original formatting was great, also. Nice job with this presentation, Bill

Tony, I can see this is a deeply personal write based on observed space and place over time. You had my imagination working immediately as I know the area and the fauna & flora so well. You sound like you have found the perfect place to sit and muse, to ramble and imagine, to spend the twilight years. I can see why you are turning out so much great verse like this. I loved this section:
But Nature now conceals the violent spill
With brambles, boxthorn and a salve of green,
A haven for small birds that flit, then still
Their wing, alert for feral cat and fox,
And hawks that hover, high above the rocks.

Thanks Mark. We're in the midst of renovating the old farmhouse at the moment, scavenging stone from all around the property to keep the new part in keeping with the old.
