That was a powerful and eminently suitable ending to your piece of prose. It hit the mark, and I believe as you do that we do have "back up" when something is just and appropriate. Very effective piece of writing, you certainly have a way with words, and I hope that others will get the hint and also act in a chivalrous fashion. The age of chivalry and compassion is sadly gone, but it does not mean we should not act less caringly. Faye

Very good. I know what you mean about contest entries not being seen by our fans. If you can afford the pumps to put it on the top twelve, there's hope, but not worth it. I used to enter contests... won enough money in them that I had 620 FS dollars at one time, then I quit. No more, unless I start one myself.

Wonderful on the money piece. A tough commentary on the human condition. No one likes to admit that their own inactio is a horrible defect. The last line was a shocker and chills with its truth! NG

You are a man after my own heart in deciding not to enter a contest in favorof ensuring your fans would get to see your work! I, for one, am especially glad that you made this story a general post. I hardly ever review prose, as I have trouble enough keeping up with the poets, but your story sucked me in from the very first sentence and I was entranced until the end. I like to think that I am a person in favor of doing something as opposed to nothing... Sometimes, people (the ones who are doing nothing, that is) get put off by such actions, but I think that is because it draws attention to theirinaction and they become resentful. I believe in intervening on behalf of "the least of them," and to hhe'll with whether or not other people will like me... They certainly know better than to pick on me... I think you and I have much in common, as you've pointed out in a review of one of my poems...
It is such an honor getting to know you more and more through the beautiful philosophical and moral sentiments you share so often in your writing. Love, Steph

Yeah, bullies doesn't take direct confrontation very well. They like it when the odds are in their favor. This is very well written and makes for a great read.

Mikey, this scene is one that plays itself over and over again but rarely with the one who steps in and rescues. It is what I would loosely say a "sin of omission". As a society we slink back and let atrocities happen all the time. Cowards are a dime a dozen. Thought provoking. Now you know why one of the reasons that I don't do contests. :0 GracieAnn

I agree doing nothing can be worse. Well written and well said.
I would often defend the underdog...because I did not like cruelty.
Bullying is cowardice..I like your story ..especially the ending
