I don't believe you lost anything in the translation at all, Phillip. I thought your story was funny, albeit sad that you've lost your dear mother, and it is one that I think many of us could relate to. Lord knows I've put things in our freezer, only to search for something to make for supper and wonder if what I'd just pulled out of the deep freeze was pork, beef, venison, or something...else.
It is the little things in life that our loved ones often do that leave the biggest impression in our minds. Memories such as the one you've written about here, you will cherish for a lifetime.
Well done!

I am an American that's married to a Brit (who she had to explain The Full Monty to me and I saw no problems with Victor Meldrew's approach to life - LOL)
You lost nothing in translation, a beautiful memory, of what was obvious to me a loving mum to have left you with such nice, funny memories.
Cheer, mate

A funny obervation on modern conveniences. I don't think that it lost anything in translation. It brought back memories of my Grandmother's house, which still had an ice room at the far right side of the veranda.
